do I wanna buy a kindle?

Im contemplating getting an ereader for the missus, and she really likes the Kindle... whats you verdict guys? are the really worth the hype? shes a bit of a techno-nono, are they simple enough to use with out me having to mess around with it every 5 mins, or is there something better on the market?

thanks peeps

  • Im interested in this thread as I really want one!!!

I think they are quite simple to use in that they come with a USB cable so you can download your e-books to your computer, stick the usb into computer and the kindle and transfer :) and im sure there's lots of sites to get free books from too!!

think my husband is maybe getting me a kindle for christmas so it would be interesting to see others views..

Yep... the look, feel and function of the Kindle is really nice. The features that I think are most important are:

    - eInk screen - it's just like reading paper and as different as you can possibly imagine from a normal 'gadget' screen.
    - Long battery life - much, much easier to have something that lasts 1-2 months between charges.
    - Free 3G. If you do a lot of travelling (as I do), this is fantastic - free access to your webmail or Bing maps anywhere in the world with no contract and no charges. If you've ever been stung for mobile data roaming, this is the answer.

Of course there are other eReaders that fulfill some of this criteria so it's down to where the best bargains lie. Just keep an eye on those 2-3 features

For a free and easy way to convert and transfer eBooks onto your eReader, download Calibre. You can set it to match your eReader model (whether Kindle or something else), and you can use it to download news articles etc for free as well.

Amazon and other eBook stores do have lots of free books available and you can buy those through your device, without having to install Calibre or use your home computer at all.

Yes they are simple to use if you get the Wifi you can download straight from the computer or the 3G just downloads to the Kindle instantly wherever you happen to be in the World. Loads of free books and you can download a program called Calibre to change the format of library books for example.. they really are easy to set up and use and store upwards of 3000 books.

As someone who thought the Kindle was a stupid and unnecessary gadget when it first came out, I am now it's biggest fan. Buy one, I don't think you'd regret it.

Also, in case it's of any use, you can buy disks on eBay that have loads of books on them. Put the disk in your pc, plug the Kindle in and drag the books over to it. Dead simple.

Any day i would like to get a kindle. Actually i am planning on getting one for my parents. Its quite handy and easy to use. With it you can review and remember more of what you read. Also can manage your books, highlights, and notes. So kindle is defintely a keeper and for all age groups. Anybody who likes reading needs a kindle.

Any good deals going around? Please let me know. Almost on the verge of finalizing it from Viking.

I got one on Sunday and i've not put it down yet. I love to read, I love 'real' books, but the kindle is great. It's so easy to use, and you have a world full of books at your fingertips! The quality of them is great and really not like looking at words on a screen at all. Really recommend one!

one of the reasons why I want it is , as much as i love my real books, i can never lie and get comfy and i hate turning pages lol! this would be so much easiler!
