Have been following this thread as Im hoping to get a Kindle in the next week or so, but Im now torn between the Kindle and the Kobo, also, Im off to the U.S in March, should I wait until then?

I have the Kobo app on my smartphone from before I got my Kindle, and I do like that. It's good in that you can see which books you are currently reading, it tells you how far through the book you are (e.g. 'You're 50% through!), and this sounds silly but you get awards...so things like if you've read x% of your library, or read five days in a row etc etc. Silly really but I like that!
  • If I like the kindle, I will buy one. Also, this depends on your money. As for me, I do not like the kindle, I like to use iPad 2. I think iPad 2 is better than Kindle. And it is more fashionable I think. So I will not buy the kindle. :)
  • I've been looking out for a secondhand Kindle ever since I was trapped on a massively-delayed train a few weeks ago. I'd always been dead against them until then because I love my books! But seeing people whip out their Kindles and settle comfortably into their seats & not care how late we were running... 'nuff said. I also remember being stuck on holiday in Spain, well off the beaten tourist track, having finished the two books I'd taken with me as well as my crochet pattern (but not my yarn) and the villa had a tiny & appalling selection of badly-written bonkbusters & footie autobiographies. I was climbing the walls; a Kindle would have been a Godsend!
But it seems that no-one ever parts with them willingly, and they sell for nearly as much as a new one would, without the guarantees. So I may have to bite the bullet & buy a new one after all... ;)

Up until a couple of months ago Amazon had refurbed Kindles at a lower price than new and with a guarantee IIRC. They may start doing them again early next year, worth keeping an eye out for.

    - Free 3G. If you do a lot of travelling (as I do), this is fantastic - free access to your webmail or Bing maps anywhere in the world with no contract and no charges. If you've ever been stung for mobile data roaming, this is the answer.
Can you explain a bit more about this please?

What exactly can you access on the kindle over 3G and do you know which network it uses?
Is there free newspapers on it for example?
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

    Thanks for the replies.
Can I ask, is it possible to read 2 books at a time on a kindle, say if Im reading one and my husband wants to read another one?

Also, can anyone point me in the right direction of a case with light, theres quite a few on ebay but some of the lights are a different style, so I was wondering which is the best.
    Thanks :-)

I currently have six books open on my Kindle (oh, the shame), when I click on the title of the one I want to read it takes me to where I left off reading it.
I bought a reading light from M&S for a quid, clips on the £3.95 case I bought on eBay and works ok.

thats where I got my case from the other day!

and if you do indeed start reading a book, and then your hubby wants to read one of his, the page saves where you last read it at so when you pick back your book up you can pick up where u left off!

The light on my case stopped working about 3 months after I got it but other than the kids using it in the car I wasn't that impressed so I would sy buy an independent light that you can move to suit you
