Too bad people have to pay to get rid of this but I suppose the cost is worth it in some cases such as the elderly or ill and those with memory problems etcThanx

Hey, Lady!
I may have my shortcomings but I'm certainly not elderly, ill or beset with memory problems! :rotfl:
I just don't like being pestered by cretins.
These devices also, incidentally, have the ability to record live telephone calls, which comes in handy when dealing and contracting verbally with solicitors, stockbrokers, banks, credit card companies, Sky, ISPs and mobile telephone companies.
Buy one. You won't regret it and paying £100 (once) will seem money very well spent once you get used to it. :money:
Ours was accidentally unplugged from the mains by the "engineer" who came to service our intruder alarm system last week and I suddenly started getting unsolicited calls from telemarketeers. Indeed that was what prompted me to investigate why the TrueCall wasn't blocking them and how I discovered that it was unplugged. Plugged it backed in, watched it reboot and then glorious peace returned to the house. That little incident certainly reminded me of its worth!Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

... and I suddenly started getting unsolicited calls from telemarketeers. ...
I find this amazing. I am at work all day so I'm only around in the evenings or at weekend - I only get an unsolicited call about once every few months. Even if I was getting a call every few weeks I just can't believe it's worth paying a hundred quid for equipment to screen them out.
It only takes a few seconds from when you answer the phone to when you realise it's a sales call (and then immediately put down the phone) so I can't see why anybody would want to waste their money on one of these devices.
As far as recording phone calls - why? Only if you're being targeted with nuisance calls but won't that'll be a police matter and then it may be considered worth it for evidence.
Surely registering with the Telephone Preference Service will screen out the "reputable" marketting agencies which only leaves the unreputable scammers. I can't believe you're going to recieve loads of such calls or am I missing something?Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.0 -
Registering tps doesnt seem to stop such calls I've been registered with them for years and re register every year as you do have to renew and I still get them plus tps cant stop the ones from abroard apparently.
The above machine does sound good if you can afford and want to pay for it, it says as seen on dragons den. does that mean it made an appearance and got taken up by one of the dragons or got rejected by them?Thanx

I got a call from the pc scammers a while ago and i had a great laugh at their expense. He told me to turn my pc on so i pretended I had and then just sat their talking crap to him, he asked me if I had anti virus and i said no she died a couple of years ago but ive still got an Uncle Bill, shall I get him to call you. He then asked if I had windows so i told him we had just got new double glazed ones, then he asked me what was on the screen when I turned my pc on so i told him i had a nice pic of my family. I struggled to keep going, I was laughing that much.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Why do waste your time writing this stuff when only a few seconds looking at the TPS web site will clearly show you that you do NOT need to re-register at any time, provided the phone number remains live and is not disconnected.
I hardly get any unsolicited calls........perhaps 1 every few months, and these are probably from overseas as indeed the TPS will not apply to foreign based cold callers - indeed they are most likely random dialing UK numbers rather than specifically dialing 'me'.
I registered years ago on the TPS - probably when it was first launched a decade or so ago.
I'm also ex-directory.
I'm also not on the 'public version' of the electoral roll as I opt out each year when the form comes round.0 -

So am I, but it's got so bad that I don't answer the phone, I just tell family and friends to speak at the answerphone prompt and I will answer.
Cavity wall/loft insulation everyday, 'do I want to sell my shares?', BT , British Gas, one even phones back as soon as the answerphone has reset, usually 3 times straight off, even getting calls at 10.00pmMove along, nothing to see.0 -

Well it sounds like santa got stuck up your chimney. I was replying to someone else just letting them know that the tps don't stop all nuisance calls as they cant stop them from abroad but you took that bit off your quote.
And as for not having to re-register, I was just going by something I read in one of martins emails on it if I remember rightly, maybe things have changed, I don't check tps site regular as theres no reason for me to.
If you are right and you no longer have to re-register on tps every year now then I'm sure theres a nicer way of putting it here to inform people than the way you have by being rude to meThanx

If this forum and others on MSE are to be a useful source of help to others, rather than just a source of entertainment it is at least helpful if those who post what they say are facts do ensure that they get them right.
Eveyone has difference of opinions on some things and that is fine however some questions have a simple factual answer.
For example if my disk drive fails and I need a new one compatible with my old motherboard and I ask for advise I would like to think I'm only going to get answers from those who really do know the answer - rather than those who think they know - but don't.
I did not quote the part of Lady K's reply which dealt with the TPS not stopping calls from overseas as I had no issue with this aspect - and I agree with their comments.
I only had a problem with the part stating the requirement to re-register each year with the TPS. If people read this and re-registered their number (and people do actually read advice on here and act upon it) it is going to waste a lot of their time and more importantly waste a lot of the TPS's time.
Perhaps I'm odd (well I'm an engineer!) in that I will not post statements of facts on the internet unless I'm 100% sure that they are accurate. So if I 'think' something is true, rather than merely posting it as "you need to do this", I will spend some time actually checking it is from multiple sources before I post - in this case the TPS website itself being one.
For instance I checked and discovered to my interest that the TPS is funded by the direct marketing groups themselves - some sort of annual levy I suppose.
I also confess I find it strange on MSE and other forums when we have questions like does my bank do "X type of savings account". Someone either then replies along the lines of with "why don't you try google/bank website" and the OP then gets all offended. It probably took the OP longer to type the question than to google the answer in the first place, and I sit here read it all and think why would anyone employ this person as they seemingly want someone else to do everything for them.
Anyway I'm sorry you though my reply rude. Perhaps I've been reading too much of some ISP's forum sites where a wrong answer is met with a barrage of "yet again you have posted total s**t which will make the problem worse not better" sort of reply.
Fortunately I do not have to deal with Santa or any other aspects of the commercial festive orgy that is "Christmas" - all my relatives are dead.
I wish all thee well0
