Warning - Phone Call saying we have a computer virus

Hi

Not sure where to post this but I received a phone call earlier saying that they were ringing all windows users as our computer had a virus.

He wanted me to turn the computer on but I stopped him there as very suspicious and said he'd need to speak to my husband as he's more techie than me.

I also pointed out that a little surprised as our virus checkers hadn't picked anything up but apparently they don't pick this one up.

However I 1471'd and got the following telephone no. 020 88195913
Out of curiousity I typed the number into Yahoo to try and track who's number it was and lots of warnings from various forums saying its a scammer and wants access to your computer and various other scams.

Does anyone know anything about this one ??

I have heard that this is a scam as well so I would just ignore the phone call.

Yes I've seen a few warnings about it in the national press, I think the latest was this weekend. Basically they start telling you they need money for them to be able to fix whatever supposed problems they find. Don't touch it with a bargepole.

    Here you go.

My best mate got caught with this, she was a bit vunerable as her hubby is in hospital.

He got her to turn on the computer and push this button and this one, red and yellow bands of writing come up, so he says yup, thats a virus log, we can help you...

£200 later he says leave the computer on and this will clean it...

anyways we managed to get the bank to do a chargeback on the transaction, hopefully that is that.

But, be aware they do try it on.

lol, yep.. they take you to event viewer and hope you don't know anything about computers so they can baffle you with bullshit.

The best way to get rid is to just start having phone sex with them.

If that's correct, they're going to have a hell of a big phone bill-about 720 million users I believe-and that's just the legit copies...

They ask you to give them remote access, they then fiddle with you're boot up files claim this is proof the machine is riddled with viruses, is about to blow up and they can fix it for £300, ok £100, ok £20 when you argue.

Either put the phone down, or tell them that you have an allergy to marshmallows and can not use a computer because of this, and instead can they write to you at the North Pole.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
  • My advice is to install a decent piece of virus software on your machine and run a deep scan on your computer. As a computer technician I would reccomend Kaspersky
  • yea its a scam
i was nearly done with it i done everything the guy said till he said he could fix it for £300 for two yers protection thats when i blew my top and said i could buy a new laptop for that , quickly done a system restore and scan then read up on it and low and behold found out it was a scam
following night he had a cheek to phone again so i let him raant on then i told him i was recording everything he said lol so he said !!!! you and hung up
