Why is it that I always feel embarrassed about being given a single 1p piece in change when purchasing something for £99p or £1.99 etc. Part of me always go to say "Oh I don't want that, you keep it" and then another part of me says "No, why should I give my hard earned money away"
Does anyone else do this?
By the way, before anybody else mentions it LOL ... If there was a charity box, of course I would put it in there.

in a word, no.
I always empty my wallet of it's copper contents every few days into a jar at home. That way, every 9 months or so you get a nice £40(ish) treat when you change them in. Don't just give it away!0 -
No, if the price is 0.99 or 1.99 then you pay 0.99 or 1.99.
Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves0 -
I usually put it in my purse as extra pennies would only cause the till not to balance when it comes to cashing up, and who knows - the next thing I buy might come to £1.21 or whatever, so that penny will be useful and save me breaking into a higher value coin or note. Occasionally if I'm buying at a market and the stallholder starts rummaging in his apron pocket for change, I'll say "don't worry about the penny" but generally I'll take it and not even think.
If I pass a charity tin-rattler, they tend to get the small-change shrapnel that's in my purse, and I go through phases of saving 5p's in a jar instead of keeping them in my purse, as I find them the most fiddly and irritating coins ever!0 -
Hell no!! nor do I put it in the charity box – I take it home with me and put it in my copperpot which has 1’s, 2’s and 5’s – I will be changing it again soon (just before xmas) and buy myself something nice!0

i agree, if its only 1p, you might need it! one day you could only have 99p in your wallet and that 1p you just let someone keep cost you your lottery win!
i will even pick pennies up if i see them in the street! Luckily i have a 2 and a half year old who i make pick it up so i don't look so desperate! hehe. we have a copper pot and also a silvers which we deposit in the bank once a year. Plus its good to have cash in the house incase you need a bottle of milk and payday is a few days later. saves spending £1 on the card you can just spend your 10p's
hehe
Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

Me too - whilst chanting "find a penny , pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck"
I save them all as well. It can make for a nice surprise when you most need it.0 -
Look at it this way. If a retailer can sell something for £19.72 and make a profit, they will put it on for £19.99. So you are feeling bad about taking 1p back when they have fleeced you 27p?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. definitely don't feel bad about taking 1p in change. I'm another one who empties their purse of 1s, 2s and 5s and bags them up in bank bags.0
