I don't dispute that there are good deals, but they are rare and in general the interest part of a mortgage is less than the rent. I don't even see the point in rushing out to buy now, but whether that turns out to be a good decision is a gamble as no one can be certain what property prices will do.0 -

and what if you invest the lump sum that you would have used as capital for the deposit?
that makes renting even cheaper
and if house prices fall...which they are doing...then it's even better
perpetuating the myth that buying is better than renting is why so many people in the uk are saddled with a massive mortgage which is effectively a noose around their neck
they got sucked into buying a depreciating asset at a hugely inflated price
i genuinely feel sorry for anyone who has bought since 2007, especially first time buyers, who got sold a dream that was based on a pack of institutionalised lies

We do seem to have some lucky people on here they either buy a house in an area where prices are rising rapidly when everywhere else they are falling or they can pop out and find a house to rent well below the going rate just when they need to. It s a shame most of use have to put up with our houses losing value and paying extortionate rent.0

In the final analysis - buying is the intelligent option.
Renting is for those for whom the whole house buying process is simply too much effort .....
Assuming that the mortgage is paid off in 10 years, the buyer is living rent free ..... the renter has to continue paying FOR LIFE!!
They say that life expectancy is now well into the 90's ... renters face about 60 years of paying where the buyer has lived rent free in their own home.
60 YEARS ..... that's 720 monthly payments!! 720!!!!
That could easily turn out to be £720,000 !!! Just think about it for one moment.Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0
