Very Rude Estate Agent

  • They could have called the branch to explain.....but they didn't

The EA can't do this is they do not know what is going on.

We all work in environments where lateness is a nuisance, however if I spoke to each of my clients that were late in the manner the OP suffered my feet would not touch the floor!

I'm not defending rudeness but it's frustrating when a viewer is late, especially if you are doing an out of hours viewing OR when the late viewer then makes you late for your next appointment and you have those clients screaming at you because you are late yourself.

It might well be frustrating but when the viewer has twice taken the trouble to ring you to explain, and the delay is caused by an unavoidable and unexpected traffic accident, it's hardly professional to take it out on the viewer. At least you'd have had the information available to ring the next set of clients and forewarn them.

If the viewer hadn't bothered to ring to inform you of the situation, rudeness as you say still isn't defensible but the pressures are more understandable.

I had a similar experience, we drove 70 miles to view house and got delayed in traffic and were running about 10 minutes late, rang the EA office to keep them informed and when we got there a very shirty estate agent said you can have 5 minutes then I have to go. I spend more time deciding which light bulb to buy never mind the biggest purchase of my life.

Even worse was the time when we did the same 70 mile journey, arrived in good time, and just sat and waited outside the property, no EA in sight.. When I eventually rang the EA I was told they had tried to contact me on a defunct tel no to say the house was sold. I think they could at least have turned up to let us view after all the office was only a couple of miles away. I just discounted any properties this particular agent was selling maybe daft I know but did find the property I wanted sold by great estate agent, put those selling mine to shame.
  • we've never viewed a house to buy, just to rent and considering we seem to move pretty much every 18months we've seen a good few houses and one thing i have come to realise is that estate agents seem to think they are something higher than they actually are. i dunno if it's the suit or the clipboard but something gives them an ego. they also seem unable to call you back!

we spoke to one agent about where we was currently living and she said 'oh we don't list them properties, we only list the elite properties' and the funny thing was this particular estate agent is the agent whos boards are more often than not outside of the 2bed terraced houses that are going for like £375 per month with 1980s carpet inside!

we also viewed another house that was an ok amount in rent but inside was a bloomin' mess! the plaster on the ceiling was still brown and hadn't even been painted! i said at the door i'm going to be honest the property isn't for us, it's dirty and the ceiling hasn't even been painted and the estate agent was so snotty with me telling me he'd already said it would be cleaned before it was let out! we decided against using that agent but a property we liked came up when we needed to move and we thought we'd give 'em a 2nd chance and they couldn't even be bothered to reply back to the request a viewing form we filled in! when people mention estate agents we make a point of talking about that particular company and our experience with them... which will cost them more than just our potential rent money.

i agree with you, there's no need for rudeness. i would write a complaint to the company and then back it up by taking your business elsewhere. i'm sure there will be lots more properties that you like as much as this property or even like more than this proerpty if you keep looking!
£254/£12,000 challenge... Only £11,746 to go! Wish me luck! :|
  • My Brother was due to view a rental property. Whilst on the phone at work the EA rang so he asked his colleague to take it and explain he was on a call. The colleague then told my Brother that the EA was very rude and abrubt.
My Brother then sent the EA a text telling her this and that he would not be viewing the property, LOL. She did`nt reply either

I take that point but would say that the estate agent doesn't know that from talking to you on the phone and should therefore hedge his bets and behave himself. His first response to a slight delay should not be to give someone a lecture on timekeeping.

I would expect his first response and his subsequent behaviour to be professional at all time regardless of whether or not he thinks you are time wasters or not.

I would personally let head office know. There may be other properties on their books that you would like to see in future.
