That was my first thought but they are apparently open until late every day.

They could have called the branch to explain.....but they didn't

Of course it can be "frustrating" but look at what the OP said:

As an EA if you want buyers/sellers to keep you informed then give them the means to contact you.

    See above

If the EA was going to made late for a further appointment he could simply have said "ok guys, the situation is clearly beyond your control so can we reschedule as I am running out of available time this evening"

The EA can't do this is they do not know what is going on.
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

Yep I'd agree that, generally, the majority of EAs are clueless oiks.:D

However, specifically, in this case the EA did know because he rang the OP and they then explained about the accident which was preventing them from keeping to the agreed appt time. He chose to upbraid them rather than simply reschedule.

I approve of the use of the word 'majority' :D

Like I said earlier, I'm not excusing rudeness, there was a way that this could have been dealt with and then there is the way in which it WAS dealt with....awful!

  • Toughen up.

If you get so easily upset by something so insignificant, then you will have serious problems when it comes to offering on a property you like unless you pay full asking.

You shouldn't let anything an agent says get to you - fullstop.

I would have gone round there and punched his lights out for being rude.

Estate agents are total idiots, generally they know absolutely nothing about the property they are trying to sell.

I'd just write to the head office -and move on. Anyone with an ounce of common-sense knows what SE London traffic is like and the EA should be used to this happening. Rudeness is inexcusible.

I have to say I completely disagree. Like any job, a "professional" should never talk to a client in that manner. Although in the long run it will do him more damage than the client. Potential lost business, reputation. I run a business and if my employees or anyone representing my company spoke to a customer like that I would definately have something to say about it! There is no need to be anything other than professional. It's the ea who needs to grow up here - the op does not need to toughen up, although they should not take the ea personally.

Dont for one minute think that I condone the agents behaviour, but if you are going to buy from one of their vendors, they can be far more aggressive and confrontational than the Op experienced. They will try all sorts of tricks to manipulate the buyers emotions.

So, I stand by my assertion that the would be buyer needs to toughen up and not let anything an agent says get to them

Well I guess maybe they do need to take what they say with a pich of salt, but I think in this situation it isn't anything to do with buying. I haven't experienced aggresive ea's before - some smarmy ones and some bad at selling, but maybe I have lived a sheltered existance!
