How many hours do you have CH on per day in winter

24 hours a day but I control it using the thermostat turning it right down to it's minimum setting at night and when I am out. It's cool but not chilly in the morning. When I get in it takes about 20-30 minutes to get up to room temperature (but for me that's 18 degrees). I get in at such random times that a timer makes it too difficult to control.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Only a few hours in the evening but I try to encourage my housemates to use it sparingly. I work away during the week but agree to split the bills equally and the last two Fridays when I've got back the house has been like a rainforest and lord only knows how long they've had it on for during the week.
The way I see it, its much easier to put more clothes on.0 -
By December every one has an extra layer of clothing.
CH is an hour in the morning.
Then 4.30pm till 10.00.
Hourly boosts do happen when it is cold.0 -
Hiya, heating is accountable in diffrent ways and a lot depends on how long you are at home. How insulated your home is.
Asking people How long their CH is on for? this answer could be backed up by heat from wood burners or coal fires...
In my well insulated home we have the CH on for 3 hours a day and people in the home 24/7.
Then I could also say now the cold weather has set in, I burn a lot of wood in my small coal fire in the afternoons. This brings the house temp up and drys the washing on clothes horse's over night.
Little things like leaving the oven door ajar after using helps. Using hair dryer, kettle and things as you go about activities also adds to heating the home. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
3pm till 9pm, all day Christmas Day and Boxing Day and an hour or so in the mornings when we're up early and noone wants to get in the shower because it's too cold to undress :rotfl:Princess Sparklepants0

I'm hoping to get off the dam prepayment metres as I've paid the gas bill off over 16 years ago and its funny how I always fail the British gas credit check isn't it?
Two hours a day one in the morning and one at night but I've just had a new Baxi boiler and that things heats the whole house up in no time.
It gets that bad my sons open their windows now in winter

Hi...usually 20 degrees on the room stat, TRVs at 3...turn down stat when when we are out and off at night (prefer cool temps for sleeping). We always wear slippers and sweater/fleece. If it feels a bit chilly we'll crank it up...life is too short to spend it shivering in your own home.

Same for me .... except the first point as it is still proving difficult to explain to 15 yr-old son that when feeling cold first thing to put on is not central heating but more likely a jumper and some socks.
When weather is very cold can be on for longer ... my Eon online energy tracker is showing I used around 60% less gas this year than last year during November as this year was warm and we had snow last year at end of Nov! (For most of year gas has been down ~20% per month as I've reduced the standard heating times)0 -
