Like the sound of that switching bonus, went in a Co-op to cash my savings cheque and have got an appointment with them a week Sat. If the deal's good I'm switching (from Natwest, no problems in 13+ years).0

Unfortunately, the switching bonus from the Co-op ended at the end of October (it was a one week thing). Still a good bank though!0 -
Ah right, shame. Will still go and talk to them though, after standing in a queue for over half hour to cash my savings cheque (CU) I'm game to try anything!0

First Direct seems to be highly rated on this forum. Apart from the phone being answered by a person very quickly is there anything else which sets them apart from the rest?Money is a wise mans religion0 -
First Direct or HSBC every time. I honestly can't fault either and have had nothing but great customer service from both.
good luck with whichever bank you choose!

I use HSBC and they're great.
That time when Travelodge took 2 payments from customers for one booking. I phoned HSBC and they put the money straight back into my account and disputed it with the Travelodge.
I was shocked at how quickly they sorted it all.0 -

I totally agree with you, HSBC customer service is A1. I cannot ever see myself having another provider for my main bank account.Money is a wise mans religion0 -

Even a trained monkey can pick up the phone after 2 rings. No, what makes First Direct different from other banks is the quality of customer service. After you've spoken to them over the phone, you very rarely (if ever) feel disapponted
EDIT: I should add HSBC are also very good..providing you speak to their UK call centre (pot luck). If you get through to their Phillipines call centre, then god help you...god really help you! (ala TalkTalk phone support)0 -

If there is one thing that I dislike about HSBC it is the overseas call centre. I spoke with them the other day, it sounded like I was speaking with somebody in India - a difficult conversation. Natwest's UK call centres are a strong selling point in my opinion. Thankfully in this day and age of internet banking I seldom have to use the phone banking.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
I'm with Natwest for my main account, and have never had any problems with them, and their online banking is great.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0
