Is your Wi-Fi Security set to 'Disable':

If it is disabled, that will be why you can't see a password field.

WEP - can easily be cracked.

It is better to use WPA2 (if available) or WPA.

Also, as mentioned above by someone else, if you are having problems with the Wi-Fi signal, try a different channel number.

Note: If you do change the password, you will be prompted on the wireless devices (phone and Kindle) to re-enter the password when you try to connect.

I would change that WEP is the least secure very easy to crack, WPA2-PSK is the most secure and best option.
  • Am I invisible?

I have a degree in network computing if that helps?

This is not to do with your security settings if it worked fine previously

Thanks for all the help. If I change to WPA2 does it cause any potential problems elsewhare.

So long as your phone and the Kindle support WPA2, it will just be a matter of choosing your wireless connection and re-entering your password.

Regardless of whether it is or is not due to Wireless security, it isn't a good idea to leave it on WEP.

There are plenty of articles online of how to crack a WEP Wi-Fi connection.
