Lost wifi Signal

I have been using my Smartphone and Kindle connecting through my Netgear router for a couple of years with no problem, good signal always available. However today neither my phone or Kindle will connect, the Kindle does not find a sinal and although the phone does it will not connect to it. I have tried re-inputting my code on the phone but still no joy.

I have recently started to use dropbox online storage but would not think this could have caused the problem.

Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

  • Have you restarted the router? Simple question but worth a try ;)

Is the 'i-light' steady and green? It looks like a candle on a dish!

Yes all the lights are bright, just cannot understand this at all.

  • Maybe the neighbour just introduced a wireless device using a similar channel causing conflicts and signal weakness.

Try changing the channel that your wireless frequency submits on. Well be a setting on the router. Change to + or - about 5. So if it's 6 change to 1 or 11.

No, my question was is it steady and green!

It might be bright Orange, that would mean you have no sync!

Try typing the following address into a web browser:

    192.168.0.1

You should get a username and password prompt. Try 'admin' as the username and 'password' as the password. If that doesn't work, check the label on the base of the router for the password.

Once you're in to the Netgear router configuration, you can easily check the status - whether the router is connected or not.

So it seems that your router is connected but it may be an issue with the wireless connection settings. They may have reset

If you click on the Wireless settings tab within the router configuration, just check the name (SSID) of your wireless connection and password are the same as you had them previously.

  • Hmmm the op has identified that it seems to be a signal issue.

Changing the channel the wireless system is broadcasting on may certainly help with that issue.
