I must be Twitters thickest member...

Right, I joined Twitter a couple of weeks ago and did my first tweets this morning, all incredibly inciteful and interesting, but I am confused. I have no followers or anything so where do they go? Are the tweets just going to me? How does one acquire followers?
And also, how do you make a tweet interesting-surely people don't want to hear about other peoples boring existences-or is that what the attraction is.
I just don't seem to be getting it.

The competition is enormous.
You, on the other hand, made a multi-sentence post here containing words of more than 2 syllables, correctly punctuated with only one missing apostrophe, in which you deconstructed the sheer futility of the whole enterprise.
Consider yourself officially "not thick" and delete the Twitter bookmark from your browser.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
ensure your tweets are not locked either -- far less responses if locked
. try and have something new/original to tweet -- not just: i am having a cuppa !
A new abacus

Don't worry - I have been a member of Twitter for over a year and I still have not got it worked out. And I am supposed to have an IQ of 153!!! And I am technologically quite savvy! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

That really made me smile so thanks-I am trying to publicize my blog and it seems that being on Twitter is a prerequisite in the Blogosphere so that's why I've signed up...really don't understand it though and no idea if anyone would have got my tweets (not that I'm too concerned, just curious). But then I don't understand Facebook either so it's not really that surprising.0 -
Loads of people on Twitter get 'celebs' to retweet one of their posts, for example Lord Sugar will often do it if you promise to buy his latest book !!
@Lord_Sugar
Its a way of getting yourself noticed. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Have to say i enjoy reading Lord_Sugar and Peirs Morgon have their arguments on Twitter :P
I never tweet... I just follow a load of my fav celebs to see what they are up to

I set up my Twitter account ages ago. I used it probably twice if that, but I did get a lot of emails saying that "blahblah is following you on Twitter". When I checked, there seemed to be a lot of "exotic" types, with Russian/Eastern European names, complete with photos showing them in a state of undress.
I wouldn't mind but I tweet using my proper (girls) name!:eek:
I follow a few Twitter accounts of things of interest to me...news sites, astronomical societies, etc etc and I found a few of my FB friends who were on there who followed me when I followed them.
But to be honest, I just can't be bothered with it. Whenever I think of a witty, urbane comment, by the time I've got the pc switched on and logged into Twitter, I've forgotten what I wanted to say!

There is a reason Twitter is normally spelt with an A instead of an I....0
