Hi Emuchops, here are a few tips for you.
If you want to promote your blog think about who you want to reach. Go to this site (hashtags.org/) to see which hashtags are being used by people to talk about the subject of your blog/tweets. Try a few searches to see what terms there are as there may be a few. Hashtags are basically used by people to index their tweets so if I want to talk about footie, a person or something else I pick an appropriate one or simply use one that I know of. You can also use them to monitor what other people are talking about or to join in a conversation. When the news of the world scandal broke people were using #notw and #saynotonotw which was one way to monitor the latest news, rumours, chat, etc.
Basically on Twitter I would advise putting a real photo of yourself and tweeting what you're up to as well as stuff relating to your blog. I wouldn't advise making it all about yourself. Be useful to your target audience by chatting about stuff which is of interest to them such as the latest topics.
When you tweet (unless your tweets are private and most people have public rather than private ones) they are in the public domain which means anyone can read them. If I go to your Twitter address your tweets will all be there.
To get followers. Follow people as already mentioned but if you think someone is interesting, chat to them by quoting their username first plus your message e.g. @username hello! Also retweet other people's tweets which means you repost what they have written which is is effect an endorsement of what they have written and people like this as you are promoting what they said to a wider audience i.e. yours.
It takes a little of time to get the hang of it but you'll pick it up soon enough. Don't expect miracles and there's more to it as it takes time to build up contacts/friends on twitter. Give me a shout if you have any questions.0 -
Just send requests to your friends and ask them to follow you.0

Right, I'm not much more than an occasional lurker on these boards so I might be wrong but your blog looks like it's all about money saving, so I'd assume your target followers might be members of this blog?
There are plenty of members who seem to talk about any and everything—surely there's a thread where those on twitter mention who they are so they can get together and follow each other?
That'd be my first step. If there's no such thing then you really need to find users on twitter itself to follow who in turn may find you interesting enough to follow back. Don't just target anyone though, find others who share interests. I see you're only following three others right now. Surely following Martin Lewis would be a good start (@MartinSLewis). If you want to find others interested in saving money look at his followers and follow those you find interesting.
Look for blogs you read now, check if they have twitter accounts and follow them. It's important you make the timeline you follow full of interesting things for you to get something out of twitter.
Try a search of your local area, follow people from there that pique your interest. Once you've amassed so many followers, start to make conversation. Send an @reply to people who say something, but make it genuine. Sometimes people ask questions or post links themselves. Give them answers or opinions of their writing work. Making conversation on twitter is much like real life.
When it comes to posting your own blog, try and get the gist into 140 characters, rather than simply saying "New blog post". I notice one of your tweets says "Latest blog post now available. Entitled #SnoutSnugglers and #Rakfisk". To a simpleton like me this means nothing. Try and be more descriptive, and always post a link to the article, use a URL shortener so you have more room to type your tweet. (I notice you have done this in your latest tweet; keep it up!)
Don't ask your friends to follow you. Just let them know you're on twitter. They'll follow if they're interested, if not they probably aren't any use to you other than just to bump up your numbers. And try to avoid begging celebs to retweet you. It's a bit desperate.
Hope any of that helps, sorry if I've stated the obvious. And to those who don't like twitter obviously don't know how to get anything out of it. It really is what you make of it.0 -
Thanks Galbanino that answer is great, and no, not stating the obvious (well not to me anyway). Yesterday I set up a Twitterfeed and got 2 new followers. I'm guessing Twitter does the updating now? I am a bit backward in coming forward as I don't want to appear to be 'spamming' people and ramming it down their throat. Hoseman-I shall do more research on Hashtags and Carlpayne- I don't really have a huge circle of friends and those I have aren't very Twittery. Perhaps I should get some more...Right, I'm not much more than an occasional lurker on these boards so I might be wrong but your blog looks like it's all about money saving, so I'd assume your target followers might be members of this blog?

I gave up on Twitter ages ago.
Got fed up of reading the likes of "Olly Murs/Stacey Solomon et all just tweeted me". Woopee do!
For it's sins, I do prefer Facebook. At least if I'm not typing anything I can play games (Gardens Of Time!).Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £18,886.270 -
