Hi all,
Well from the title you can probably guess that I am planning on proposing to my g/f of 2 years sometime soon and was wondering what the best method would be....do you still get down on one knee, do I need to ask the fathers permission first, how much do I spend on a ring......
So any advise or suggestions on a romantic way to propose I would love to hear them!!!

Awww, congratulations
My hubby asked my dads permission and my dad was chuffed to bits by it. I think it means a lot to ask the dad first.
The ring...being that this is a money saving board, I'd just say to buy what you can afford. If I knew now how much debt my hubby was in I'd rather he spent less on my ring.0 -
Convert Clubcard vouchers to Goldsmiths vouchers for the ring!
Congrats though (assuming she says yes of course!)0 -
Just don't do what my ex did. He was already up to his neck in debt (60K and nothing to show for it) and went and blew 4K on a ring, his proposal was "so you'll marry me then"? "Here's your ring"................. I said no as he just proved he was irresponsible about money. If you are in debt buy a ring you can afford, your girlfriend will understand. A more expensive ring can always be bought later. Thats what my parents did.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

My boyf proposed to me at Xmas, and I was really worried that he'd spent loads on the ring. Found the receipt by accident, and it cost £70!
I was dead impressed that he found a ring I love without any female intervention, and more importantly, without spending a fortune.
It's not the cost of the ring that counts, it's the meaning. Romance and love doesn't cost a penny.

It's tradition to spend a months wages - but do only spend what you can afford. I'd rather something cheaper but special rather than something stupidly expensive - I'd only be scared of losing it anyway!
(Would you like to have a word with my boyf and drop hints.........LOL)
Good luck, congrats and def ask the father first! It's traditional and kinda sweet

awww congrats.
um i don't think u need to ask permission , but it is nice. my hubby didn't. but after hubby asked me , then he and my dad did talk about future etc etc. ( my dad was just glad to get rid of me , lol ) as for price of ring. my cost hubby nearly a whole months wages. but he could afford it at the time as he still lived with parents. and now i panic sometime at how much money is on my finger, but tbh. i wouldn't of cared if it cost just £14.99. because it is the love that counts. buy what u can afford .0 -
How lovely, congratulations.
A young friend of mine who got married in September asked his girlfriend's father first. Everyone was dead impressed by this.
I agree with others about the ring, don't spend what you can't afford; you can get good second-hand ones or even a dress ring, it's the thought that counts.

My BF proposed to me in bed by accidient! We then swore to keep it quiet until he had asked my dad. But after asking my dad my parent just kept sayig to me "So any news today then?" and stuff like that so I'm glad he had already asked me or it'd wouldn't of been a surprise!!! Anyway I think its nice to ask the dads permission! Also being the MSE that I am we chose a ring together and I picked the one with £650 off!! I did also love it though! Good luck, keep us posted on what happens!Just trying to be me.....0
