forced to wear a hat

The perspective is somewhat different when its a choice of wear the hat or a disciplinary hearing will be convened and the employers will is forced upon an unwilling employee.
The reason for the reluctance is neither here nor there, imo. If the employees preference is not to wear a silly hat, why would a reasonable employer seek to force the issue?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Why would a reasonable employee kick up such a fuss? The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Not everyone feels comfortable wearing such things, particularly in front of the general public.
Others won't have a problem, but don't assume that it's something that anyone can do so easily.
More to the point, it has absolutely nothing to do with the employee being able to perform their job safely and to the best of their ability. Stating that disciplinary action will follow if the request is refused is rather rash.
I'm left wondering who exactly has given this manager permission to make such a statement/threat and would question whether anyone has at all!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Unless there is a compelling reason to wear a hat, cook/ contractual, it simply becomes employer imposition at this point.
If an employee doesn't wish to wear the hat they should be perfectly comfortable in politely declining any such request without fear of reprisal.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Wow .....my supermarket put the stilton in a bag
aren't you worried about a loose piece of stilton on the filthy conveyer belt ?;)
I'd wear a hat but hey ho I love daft christmas stuff0 -
It could be worse. I worked for a high street department store in the childrenswear dept. when I was student. The store went through a phase of dressing the staff in the 'new season's' clothing to promote the new ranges.
Being only 5ft 1in tall you can guess which dept I was dressed by - yep the kidswear range:o.
On one particular Saturday I was very fetchingly trussed up in a fuschia satin circle skirt that had a picture of a poodle on it, a sticky out underskirt, and a matching top edged in black satin
That very same day some of the boys from my college course decided to pop in and see me at work . I don't know what was more fuschia, my face or the stupid skirt:D0 -
are you sure she will face disciplinary for not wearing it - I work for the same employer as your wife I think and whilst some people are wearing them, we've not been told that we HAVE to - I'm not, I don't celebrate christmas, however some of my colleagues have taken to wearing them so they don't have to do their hair! So without doubting what your wife is saying, I would check again - or get her to check at least. I have friends who work in other stores and they're not being forced to wear them either..... it's the same with the christmas uniform - you either can or can't wear it, it's up to the individual.0

In one of my jobs we had to spend the summer wearing garlands and hawaiian shirts
