Really? Wow....this is definately something to pick a fight over....:cool:The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Bah humbug
Oh dear, do you really think that is helpful?
I agree with most of the sensible posts above, you need to pick your battles.
Almost certainly her employment contract will have something in it about obeying reasonable request etc so this get us to out old friend "is it reasonable"?
I suspect is is a close call but in the real world I would put up with it unless there is clearly an overwhelming feeling against by almost all of the staff. Even then somebody needs to act as spokesman and that can easily leave them exposed.0 -
THere is a saying pick you battles.
With this one you need to get a site meeting arranged through the union/staff reps and take a vote.
Get the disiiplinary action that will be taken in writing and ask the highest manager on siter and HR at head office if this is company policy.0 -
thanks everyone. didnt think it would get this much response :0)
its all about the fact that all the staff feel uncomfortable or a bit silly wearing hats and the principle of it, its another thing in a long line of ' must/must nots ', such as no nail varnish, earings smaller than 5p peice etc.0 -

OP - seriously - it is cheesy and annoying but needs must. Do you really want to risk a disciplinary because of a hat?
Yes that is because it is a specially designed hat, not a furry Santa hat.
And no they dont wear them all the time, in fact these days usually just for the odd photo shoot.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

How do you know it is furry?
Please stop trying to egg the OP on to do something that might end up with his OH with no job.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
In school kitchens we have to wear hats that the Tetley Tea folk wear in the adverts they are hideous. Also no jewellery at all apart from a wedding band. Short nails no nail varnish or perfume. I hate wearing the hat it makes my hair more greasy than it already is but its part of the uniform. I feel sorry for the op's wife and her workmates it should be up to each individual wether they wear santa hats or not.0

It's great going shopping at this time oy year.
as they scan the products "don't you feel a bit silly having to wear that hat.
As customers we should try to find even more silly hats and wear those to make the staff feel better.0 -

To be honest, I don't see anything wrong with that other "line of must/must nots", for example:
No nail varnish - I agree with this - chipped or poorly applied nail varnish looks awful and does not give a good impression to the public. Also, if working with food, who wants the bits of chipped varnish turning up in their coleslaw or whatever.
Small earrings - again, safety when dealing with stock movements, hangers etc and also to preserve the image of the supermarket (for whom staff are representatives). A 5p piece sized earring is not that small as far as working attire is concerned.
What exactly is your OH's objection? It's only a hat and I don't think it unreasonable for a retailer to ask its staff to wear promotional items.
As a customer, I don't think any less of a member of staff wearing a santa hat - I just think they look like they are entering into the spirit of the season.:hello:0 -
