Apart from my router firewall and wireless security I run no anti spyware or virus checker, one of the many features of Mac software that show up Windows for the rubbish it is.0

Try hitting F11 when you have Firefox open or View -> Full screen.
Right click just above the URL bar and unselect any toolbars that you don't use/need (or View -> Toolbars) e.g. there's sometimes an empty silver bar that acts as a bookmarks toolbar.
:question:
Thanks, I have removed the bookmarks bar and also fiddled around in options, which has certainly helped, especially changing the hideous blue shade of text I was getting on my home page!
This page looks fine now, but my home page is still 'wrong' with some text overlapping where it shouldn't, though most of it is OK. I will play around some more.....0 -
Ive used most free programs (and some pay) in my years
I personally HATE Norton and dislike Mcafee
All my stuffs free
AVG Anti Virus
Comodo Firewall (With built in defense)
Adaware ~ free scanner
Spybot ~ stops popups in Firefox and IE
But most importantly I use Firox with the NOSCRIPT plugin. This makes it near impossible for viruses to enter your computer. Ones which IE7 would quite happily allow in!
Any questions just ask away
Hi mate,
I've actually installed NOSCRIPT on your recommendation and feel a lot better for it.......Thanks!
I have a few Qs about Firefox that I hope you can shed some light on me for:
1) Do you know why I can't view Media Programs like Youtube on Firefox and when I click on Youtube I get the following:
"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.
I've checked to make sure that JavaScript isn't switched off........why is it you can play on Internet Explorer without this message but not on Firefox?
2) The fact that Firefox is more secure and at the moment I can't play such programs, will it pose any threats to my system if I download the latest Flash player for it?
3) Overall is it perfectly safe to go on certain sports sites with Firefox to watch Live sport?
4) If you are familiar with "Flashblock," what is wrong with the following, in layman's terms, that makes it block them:
* Macromedia Flash
* Macromedia Shockwave
* Macromedia Authorware
5) Would you recommend installing Flashblock and does it cause any inconvenience?
I would be grateful for contributions from all.
Thank you!

Hi Jay
Uninstall flashblock as thats what NOSCRIPT does
The way I have mine set is to NOT show blocking alerts
At the bottom of the right hand side is the noscript 'S' symbol
Whenever theres a red line its blocking something. So on you tube you need to unblock certain ones ~
youtube.com and yting.com
It will remember these so you never need to unblock them again.
The idea is that each site MAY need something unblocking for it to work correctly. Just see how it goes. But it REMEMBERS for every site.
So allow google.com and all the usual ones. When you goto a page ~
say "http://www.theaa.com/"
you need to unblock "theaa.com" for it to work
By all mean download the latest software ~
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7
anything off the firefox site is fine to install
To use its basically common sense. I use 'spybot' to stop certain popups.
I have the latest AVG installed so that when I GOOGLE something it puts up a green tick to tell em that site is safe (Or so it thinks)
then i can go on ANY site knowing nothing can do me harm UNLESS I unblock it with noscript.
Any other questions feel free to ask away mate

I use Kaspersky security. I used to use Norton, but found that it took ages for programs to load up. In saying that, Kaspersky also has it's disadvantages, one in particular is it flags up a lot of things as being a threat. I also have the built in firewall, and use AdAware, also use spysubtract

Maybe you should start your own thread for better responses as it isn't related to this thread."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hi everybody, I am not a very techi person so I could do with a little help.
Having experienced previous computer viruses, I would like to make sure that my new computer has adequate protection. After trying to understand all the different free programs available out there, I have installed the following the programs.
Please can someone tell me if these are sufficient or am I just duplicating programs which do the same job and also check my understanding of how I manage them.
Avast - Active protection, scan + update once a week
Spybot - inactive, scan + update once a week
Adaware - inactive, scan + update once a week
Spywareblaster, active, update once a week
Malwarebytes - inactive, scan + update once a week0 -
i only use a basic firewall and anti virus, and that is only to prevent viruses and such like infecting the windows systems on my home network, and to protect my virtual machines.
i use a linux distro due to falling out with microsoft and their rather dubious business practices, although i do dual boot with xp (on another hard drive) but this is just to play games, but i do use a firewall and avg on the xp system.0
