  • We went to see Ted tonight- not good I'm afraid! I had heard brilliant reports about how funny it is etc, but neither of us found it that funny. Oh well!

We stopped off at Sainsburys on the way home to get something for tea, and thanks to Originator's tip, I remembered I had a £2 off £20 spend voucher to use by the 20th! There was an offer on Pampers, so we stocked up on those to push us over the £20 threshold and got more MOCs for our trouble! The next one is £4.50 off a £30 spend (I think they're playing with us to see how much we'll spend to get money off) and some money off more nappies too.

  • Just a quick post as I know this is a safe place to brag!

I worked extra today, and even though my feet are killing me and I'm knackered, it has earned me £250! Woo hoo!

I'm now having a lovely time deciding where best to put the money.

I could use it to reach my MSE overpayment for the year, just leaving me the £150 standing order every month. But I'm quite motivated to record all of my little savings and I think I can achieve the target by the end of the year anyway.

I could put it in one of the savings pots for Christmas or holidays.

I could stick it in the maternity pot.

That's the trouble with being an MSE, it's very hard to spend money!

    hmmm.

  • Just trotted off to Sainsburys to get the stuff for dinner, and managed to save £6.50 using my MOCs!

I used my £4.50 off a £30 spend by getting to £30.44 (mwa haa haa) and then using my £2 off pampers voucher to get the shop down to £23 something.

The pampers were on offer anyway, so all in all got some bargains!

So for my trouble they have given me another £2 off pampers voucher, and a double nectar points voucher for my next shop.

I might never darken the doorstep of Mozzas again at this rate, they don't give you anything back and the fruit and veg is always a bit dodgy!

  • The money from my Amazon sale has gone into my bank account, so just transferred it into the overpayments account- sig updated!

  • Thank you for your messages, we have settled into parenthood so far and loving it! It helps that she is super-cute and she sleeps constantly as she was early. I'm sure things will change when she grows a bit stronger and finds her voice, but for the time being we are enjoying the routine of 2 hourly feeds, pumping milk and burping! We are taking it in turns to have 3 hour sleeps through the night, and I'm currently on duty.

I just transferred my MOC savings of £10.50.

Baby-related MSE activities so far include using the Cheeky Wipes that I bought at the baby show in April. At the time, I wasn't sure if they were just a gimmick, but my friend recommended them and there was a discount! They are great, actually. They are reusable baby wipes, which only use water and a few drops of essential oils to make them smell nice. We have already probably saved about £7.50 from using these. The recommendation is to only use cotton wool and water instead of baby wipes for the first few weeks, but we found we were getting through loads! But these wipes just go into the washer with a normal load and then are good to go again. So, I think we will save a lot on wipes, although I had stocked up on a few packets before she arrived. They will still come in useful for cleaning and general spillages etc though.

Tomorrow we are heading into town for a hospital appointment, so shall use some Tesco petrol vouchers on the way, should save at least £10, hopefully more.

I have an Orange cash card hanging around from ages ago, which I think is charged up with £5. I'm a bit annoyed with myself as I had got two, but it looks like the other one has dropped out of my diary and is lost forever. I'll try and spend it tomorrow and transfer the money.

I have used my tax return money to get my current account above 0. I am a fool, really, as if I added up all of my separate accounts, I shouldn't be overdrawn. It is just a case of moving funds around and accepting my savings are actually £1k less than I think. To add to my stupidity, I was paying approx £10 a month interest on the overdraft. So, the tax return money has put that account back into black and it will stay that way! So I have saved myself approx £120 a year in overdraft interest.

Other MSE activities- we have eaten a chilli from the freezer, and were given a chicken curry, so that is a free meal as well! The only thing is, we are eating microwave rice, which is a lot more expensive. This is purely for convenience and laziness, so if we are over our food budget at the end of the week then it can be cut back on!
