  • Well I had a response- they've booked me in for an appraisal in September. Due to holidays etc it couldn't be earlier??? Oh well, I've got plenty of time to get the facts to back up my claim that I'm worth more than they pay me.

  • A year later and here we are! New job! The old company were terrible and eventually gave me my appraisal at which they acted really upset that I was asking for a pay review. Long story and a lot of stress later I finally made the break, about a year too late!

I am now working full time in a job that has a lot less stress. More hours = more money so after 4 years I am back in a position to be able to dent the mortgage again! We have been making steady overpayments each month but it will be nice to put a bit more to it!

Overpaying beats any other long term investment in my opinion.

  • And minimse is now nearly 4! She starts full time school in September! Can't believe how fast the time has gone, when I look at the times of some of my posts when I was up all night with her in the autumn of 2012.

  • I'm feeling super motivated to get going on the overpayments again now that I have some money coming in! Been doing some tilly tidies so will transfer those. Need to find out if there is a sort code and account number I can transfer to or if I just have to manually add them to my standing order overpayment of £100 each month.

With work I can get discounted spending cards for lots of places. Found out I can get 5% off Sainsburys and 8% off Hungry Horse which is where we tend to eat out if at all. I'll overpay any money we've saved doing that as if it was money spent.

  • My brother is currently buying and the low rates he has been offered are making me want to cry! We are fixed for another couple of years so I think our next aim is to reach an LTV that will unlock some really good rates when we are out of the fix.

Money is still going well, the overpayments are ticking away in the background, there is a standing order that goes out each month. The budget could do with being a bit more specific as we tend to put everything on a Tesco points credit card and then clear it every month once we have been paid. We are always a month behind though so it would be good to be able to clear the card before we have been paid.

We have loads of clutter around the house and in the loft which I think I will attack over the next few months. EBay, car boot and Facebook selling should hopefully shift a lot of it. Hubby is a bit of a hoarder though so may have a battle about some items.

We are hopefully getting minimse into the swing of things by giving her £1 a week pocket money. This in itself is saving us a fortune as after every trip to Sainsburys she would ask for a £1 for the machines by the door. Generally you get a keyring or something and I counted £10+ worth hanging off her rucksack the other day! So now, when she asks for something we tell her it can come out of her pocket money. It makes her think.

I am hopefully due a bonus soon from work and will put some of it towards the mortgage.

I have been enjoying reading some diaries lately, particularly atypicalblonde. Our journey seems so long but I just think of doubling my money with every pound I overpay.

  • I'm getting back into the swing of things, spending waaaaaaay too much time reading diaries though! I really enjoyed Rasputin's.

Mystery shop paid out today so have moved it to the overpayments account and also I rang SS electric last night as they were clinging on to £130 credit from when we switched suppliers. That will get moved to overpayments as we haven't missed the money.

Mini mse is now earning a bit of extra pocket money as it's her new job to let the chickens out in the morning. She loves it and we hated doing it so win win!

  • I got up in the loft yesterday to clear out a load of baby stuff that we should never have put up there in the first place! I suppose it has helped with insulation over the years. Anyway, filled my car up and for £4 I managed to shift most of it and make a profit of £27. I gave minimse £2 for helping me and being a good girl while we were there. The rest will go in the savings pot to put towards our next holiday.

    Loving Money Mustache blog!

  • Some ebay success today as well - sold her jumperoo (babies favourite form of exercise) for £20.
Have fetched 3 pairs of work boots out of the loft to eBay too.

I don't understand a lot of the maths on Mr money mustache to be honest. It must be different in the US but I still can't imagine retiring soon. I think 50 is still a good age to aim for to be independent enough that we can both do jobs that we enjoy. DH's would be working at a dog shelter and mine would be in a wool shop - bliss!

Good to see you back posting in your diary again and with new energy and motivation! New to your diary but I'll check in.

Good luck with your journey :)

No, my username is not a typo
  • Thanks Lumanous!

Dispatched the jumperoo today. Selling DH's internet radio on eBay, lots of interest and a few bids already!

We heard today that we have qualified for full bonus at work- woo hoo!! It's the first time I've had a bonus at work so I'm very excited. I think it will be about £900 but we should find out for sure soon. I think we will put some towards the mortgage and use some to decorate the lounge. We haven't touched it since we moved in and it's a bit embarrassing! Manky carpet, faded velvet curtains and knackered settee. Just need to find inspiration to see how we are going to have it. I'm thinking big beautiful rug and smaller settees so that we have room for a bit of corner storage.
