Well, I've just had a bank statement stating that out of the 18p interest I got from them last year on my current account, I have paid 2p tax..............it strikes me that we pay tax on everything.............

I think it was a serious post and not a jokey post

basically you are saying that you would lie to police and insurers that you were not delivering?

its not a matter of lieing to the police, they dont turn up at accidents and check if anyones doing deliverys do they lol.

    Ok.

To me, you asked the question, and you are annoyed with what answers you are getting. You sound like you are looking for peoples answers to justify what you are doing, but are not liking some of the responses given. Then you rant about 'foreigners' which just shows what you really think, and another reason (you think)to justify what you are doing.

Personally I would declare it. There are a lot of reasons why you should, and not a lot of reasons why you shouldn't. The 'if, buts' ads are having an impact and has been mentioned on this thread a few times so who is to say that someone will see you, get angry because you dont declare it (because they pay all their taxes) and report you?

    Its your call.

ok ok you guys win lol

i will give it up, like ive been told its not worth the risk and my insurance refuse to cover my for buisness use (wouldent give a reason),

i may not sound it but i am actually a law abiding citizen, and the thought of losing my tax credits (summing i rely on a lot) just doesnt seem worth it.

i guess i was a bit blinded by the thought of having a few extra quid in my pocket but you guys have made me see the error in my ways, so can we be friends again?

    again thanks for your help.

this country makes me bloody sick, you get all kinds of foreigners coming to the uk and getting free houses and benefits and all im doin is trying to earn a little bit of pocket money and im been told `you must do this` `you must do that` .

sorry but it had to be said.

okay, I know you probably have had loads on this comment, but hey I agree with you. This will get a lot of backs up but am also truthful and most of the people and family I know gets there back up aswell.

Just can't be helped. And no we are nowhere near racist , just so unfair we have lived in this country all our lives and to get something it's like completing a bible for an application form.

  • Emmaroids, I think you could have been a bit more polite to the poor JSA lady - as others have said, she was just applying the rules. I worked in county court for 2 years and had to tell people things like that all the time - didn't mean I liked it.

Also, a lot of the 'foreigners' that come to this country work far harder than some of the British born people. The city where I live has a large population of Poles and they are generally regarded as scum (not by me I must add). However, I would rather live next door to a hard working Pole than a dole claiming Brit who has no intention of getting off his !!! to work.

That said, I still think that there is nothing wrong with you doing the work and not declaring it because you are not claiming any benefits (tax credits are not benefits and neither is Child Benefit) and you would not be taxed on it anyway as it's such a small amount.

As for the insurance thing, if you were in an accident and the police found you with takeaway food in your car, they might ring the takeaway up to check your story but I doubt it. If I were you, I'd get the extra cover but it's up to you.

    ;)

  • I just read your last post - sorry I must have missed that. Oh well, it's a shame to give it up but if you feel it's for the best and if the insurance won't cover you then it seems that's the best thing to do...

My opinion of working cash in hand depends on the persons circumstances. If a person is doing it whilst claiming unemployment benefit or the like then i think it is wrong. (If you can work on the side then you CAN get a job!!). If you have a job and are paying your taxes and contributing to society i don't see anything wrong with a little bit of extra pocket money. This is obviously my opinion and i certainly am not slating anyone who claims benefits. I do feel strongly about this though as a lot of this happens in my area and i get so annoyed as usually they have more disposable income than us. Admittedly i don't work through choice as i have two young sons but have always worked two or three jobs at a time before having them. DH works all the hours he can and i don't get any money. The system is seriously flawed!!

  • My husband got reported to the Inland Revenue for running an 'illegal' picture framing 'business' as well as doing his day job.

However, the business wasn't illegal, but was registered with the Inland Revenue and the National Insurance people and all tax was paid on it, even though he just did a few framing jobs for people and in our books it wasn't really a business but just a hobby making a bit of bit of 'pocket money'.

The point I'm trying to make is that you don't know if oe when when someone is going to report you and if you haven't declared it you won't have a leg to stand on.

My husband didn't like paying the extra tax, but hey, ho that's the rules.
