Oh I've just read the "b***dy foreigners" post and felt I had to reply. as someone who works with asylum seekers and refugees I know who I would rather be! An awful lot of what you read in the media is just not true. Most are decent people who have come here for a better way of life and who can blame them. they certainaly dont get handed everthing on a plate as you seem to imagine. come work with me for a while and Im sure you would change your mind. remember that old saying walk a mile in another man's shoes. Count your blessing my friend we live in a country where we DO care about our fellow human beings many dont!0

We do, actually, compared to many other places.
The Benefits system, whilst not perfect, helps the poorest of our people, they are not just thrown on the scrap heap like in many countries.
Our children are not dying of starvation and/or Aids.
Most of us (unfortunately not all) have a roof over our heads.
We have clean water to drink and no food shortages.
So I think we should count our blessings.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Hi redmandarin,
http://www.politics.co.uk/news/domestic-policy/constitution/honours-system/levy-arrest-sparks-claims-cover-up-$464700.htm
I think that link should take you there. The story seems to have evolved a little since then, it's transpired that our "whiter than whiter" president has been interviewed a second time by police re the cash for honours fracas.
I wonder whether the mentality of politicians is something along the lines of "well we make the rules, they're our rules therefore they don't apply to us".
I know we don't have the corruption of some other countries but if the whole truth could actually be established I'd bet that most people would be flabbergasted by the extent of corruption in our political system, from the very bottom upwards.

When I immigrated to the UK my visa contained the wording that my stay in the UK was "without recourse to public funds" which meant no unemployment benefits or council housing. Sorry to blow the tabloid media myth, but no, we do not get free flats and wads of cash as we go through immigration at Heathrow!!0

Thanks! for the debate offer, but no thanks, you're too clever for me, you seem to have all the facts at your finger tips.
I wouldn't mind discussing it with other tax payers who help to pay for it, that might be interesting.0 -
emmaroids. You need to get a grip. I pay business insurance for my car and pay tax via self employment.
Why should it be different for you?
If you hit anyone while deivering a pizza, not only wil you lose your car, but the person you hit through no fault of their own has to pay for it out of their own pocket, just because you wanted to do something but didnt want to play by the rules.
If you earn cash in hand REGULARLY and recieve any benefits it should be declared. If you recieve cash in hand REGULARLY for a job and are not on benefits, it should still be declared.
I'm not talking about taking 200 quid off someone to build a new wall for them once as a favour. I'm talking a regular job, no matter what it is.
And whats with all the swearing? I doubt very much whether you will actually give it all up. Just don't crash into me, please.
For the record, immigrants now get a hard time. I know a few polish people who have come over here and they work their hands to the bone, they are not entitled to anything from the government, but the government ar happy to take from them. 99% of them are polite, talk our language, fit in and work damn hard for the minimum money.0
