Thank goodness its not just me rising.
When I tell people I hate New Year and I won't be going anywhere, they look at me as if I've just grown another head or something.
I hate being drunk (why is there so much pressure to get drunk at New Year????) and I hate drunk people and I also hate the duplicity of people kissing and hugging me who will ignore me the next time I see them on the street or somewhere  So as I don't want to be a party pooper I just stay at home and wish people a Happy New Year when and if I want to

I think my hate of being drunk is that I used to drink waaaayyyyy too much - having watched several programmes on tv (you know the ones where they show drunk people in A&E etc) and seeing how ridiculous people look / stupid things they do .... and knowing that I was in that state myself fairly frequently .... it totally freaked me out and I've never been "out of control" drunk again!
Sure, I still enjoy the odd wee glass of something now & then ... but 24 hour + benders:o (not kidding) are thankfully a thing of the past.
I now also can't handle being with people who are very drunk, so generally staying in at NY, having a wee glass to celebrate is much more enjoyable.
I'm with you on the kissing too - being grabbed by total strangers or people you've mentioned who are after a snog (after kissing goodness knows how many other people - what about cold sores - the lurgi etc etc) .... urgh!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I've only ever been out on New Years Eve three times
The first was just before my 16th birthday, when I went with my (then) b/f and his parents to the house of some friends of theirs - but I was still home before midnight.
The second was seeing in 1988, when I went to a nightclub. Was supposed to be going with my (then) fella, his friend and friend's g/f - but fella and I split just before then so I ended up going alone (still don't known why I did that instead of staying home - think I just wanted to show him I wasn't sitting at home moping as they were still going!). Was spotted by a group who were my age or slightly younger and they invited me to join them, so I actually had a good evening in the end.
The third time must have been around 98/99, when we did 'shifts' at the local social club. DH went down with my parents for the start of the evening, then my Dad came and relieved me from baby sitting duties so that I could go down for the end of the evening. Not a huge success as a certain someone had already had more than enough to drink by the time I got there
I stopped even staying up to see in the New Year until we got the dog in 2004 (would have been on my own as someone always found a pub that was having a lock-in), but the fireworks upset him that much there was no point going to bed before they'd more or less finished. Having had the dog rehomed a couple of months back I was planning to head to bed nno later than 11 this year, but will now have company so shall be toasting in 2012 with a mug of tea/coffee or a glass of cola/orange & lemonade.Cheryl0 -

I did my weekly shop instead of going for it today. It was an attempt to avoid the manic supermarket on New Year's Eve but it was just as horrendous - are the shops going to be shut forever??? There was one couple who had an overloaded trolley EACH
I just don't get it - my local $par is open tomorrow for a couple of hours. Ohh well, each to their own, I suppose
As I positively detest New Year (which is a bit strange being Scottish) I am now going into hibernation for three days which should mean I will rack up some lovely NSDs and give me a head start for January
See you all next year (well, someone had to say it)

No you're not! I sitting here nodding in agreement whilst reading your posts, thinking " yeah, someone who feels the same way as me!"
Not all Scots conform to the stereotype!;)
I hate going out on Hogmanay and the thought of going to that street party in Princes Street, well I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than stand there surrounded by "revellers".
I loved going to OH's family on NY day though, but it was a traditional family do and no-one got pie-eyed.
We are staying put, have got some nice food for dinner and we will enjoy it!
Today I'm off to buy ice cream and go for a nice frothy coffee with OH - doesnt get any more rock 'n' roll than that lol!
Have a great day everyone!:)
you will always be rich enough to be generous.0 -
Have (for the first time:D) gone through the cc bill and moved sums from the various budgeting pots to the main account as per what I've spent - def going to keep up with this in 2012! Bill now paid:eek: (and now skint:o) but it's done & I never want one that size again!
So ... my plans for the rest of the day - gut the house!
I've let it slide in the past few weeks(just haven't been able to get motivated) but really need to move into the NY in a positive frame of mind so ......
Off to a bad start as just discovered one of the cats has upchucked on a pile of clean towels  (serves me right for not putting them away) so that'll be the first thing to tackle!
Think I may have to pop out for some cough stuff at some point as not sounding too healthy on the chest front today & don't want to be stuck if it gets worse & the chemist's shut tomorrow.
Enjoy your day everyone:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Good Morning folks from a windy and wet NI:eek:
I hope everyone has a fantastic New Years Eve whether they stay in or go out. I'm staying in and could never understand the "you must go out" attitude of some people. I've been out on many New Years and have paid the rip off entrance fees pubs have charged:mad:, but for me it doesn't matter whether you stay in or go out, it's about who you're with at that time. Despite enjoying a bottle or 2 of red wine from time to time, I also hate the feeling of being drunk and very rarely am thesedays, although I do get caught out from time to time:o. I'm off to the gym soon and may also do some shopping, so an NSD may be unlikely, but I'll report back later. Have a great day and fantastic New Year whatever you do.
Red:)If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Today will be a NSD
x
Which means my total for December is 29 :j:j0 -
Have been a bit AWOL this month I am afraid due to various reasons
Could I declare 12 NSD's for this month please. Not as good as I had hoped but hopefully next month will be better.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone . Hope you all have a fab 2012! :T0 -
Not a nsd for me today as I've been out and shopped. But will start January with a bright, motivated and frugal attitude to money.
I'm another one who doesn't go out at New Year - I have my mum and her husband coming round for roast dinner tonight, and I don't imagine it will be a late one. I can't actually remember the last time I was awake at midnight to see in NY.
Also cannot remember who our first foot was last year - which is a shame because tbh I'm not too keen on whoever it was doing it again. Could use an improvement in my luck next yearNinja Saving Turtle0
