Mainly because they are quitting work after a month and back on benefits.
Or the Future Jobs Fund (Which is a good thing) meant they didn't claim for a few months.0 -

Benefits should NEVER get increase ! NEVER NEVER ! The public sector workers is caped 1%. All hard workers get no pay rise and most of them get pay cuts to kept their job safe.
Jobseeker Allowance should reduced 5% not increase!
The government are in a mess again. Millions will think AM I BETTER OFF ON JSA than minimum working wage ?
Disgraceful Tory.
JSA will go up from 67.50 to 70.87 in April 2012, plus DLA, SDA as well. And ESA too.0 -

Firstly, it is the child element of CTC that is being up-rated not the child element of WTC (which doesn't exist!). It isn't only the CTC that is being up-rated by CPI, the disability elements of tax credits will also be up-rated. The article states no other elements will be up-rated which is incorrect.

They seem to have corrected that - but think it's still wrong as it states:Meanwhile, the child element of the child tax credit and the disability elements of tax credits will be uprated by CPI will be uprated in line with inflation, but other elements of the working tax credit will not.0 -
Sack the whole lots of government. Time to call up General Election0

But the statement only states that the couple/lone parent element is being frozen, not the basic element and the 30-hour element (or has it been previously announced that these will be frozen?)
I see they have corrected it now. Not very accurate reporting of a major story.
Anyway, the WTC basic and 30hr elements were frozen for 3 years from April 2011. That only leaves the 50+ element that is abolished anyway from April 12.

Means-tested DWP allowances are set at what the law considers to be the minimum you need to live on. It is therefore necessary that they go up with inflation. I'd argue that a similar thing should happen to minimum wage, although a full time minimum wage work week remains much higher than the weekly means-tested allowance.
Why is it that people struggling are so easily divided and conquered? When people bicker over one person getting slightly more than them then neither wins - the only one to gain is at the top, content to take from everyone else busy racing to the bottom.
I am happy that someone else is at least on this occasion getting what he needs and am willing to campaign for the same sort of thing for myself.
Did you think the previous govt should have cut benefits when inflation was negative in 2009 then?0 -
What's wrong with introducing food and clothing vouchers etc so benefits can't be spent on 50 inch tellys? Scrap the money. Give it out in coupons.0
