If it's only when you startup the machine, it has to be something in the startup folder, so follow prev poster's advice for msconfig, startup0

I have done, but I don't know what I'm looking for. There is alot in the start up folder and I can't copy and paste it for someone to tell me if one of them is the route cause.£2012 in 2012 member #15: £651.55/£20120 -
Here's a screen shot if this means anything to anyone£2012 in 2012 member #15: £651.55/£20120 -
do you use any desktop shortcut icons? eg for firefox/internet explorer? (edit you do according to the screenshot, anything with the arrow symbol (eg the one on skype and booksmart) is a shortcut check them all)
if you do right click on one and select 'Properties' under the 'Shortcut' Tab there is a section called 'Target' see what is written in that box, if it has anything to do with shutdown (specifically: shutdown -s (and the text that comes up when just about to shutdown))
repeat for each shortcut icon on the desktop (and if need be the whole system (though it will be something you normally click on))
when you find the one with the shutdown text in the target box, that is the shortcut you want to delete.
you will then have to recreate the shortcut by going to Start> all programs, find the program and right click on it select Send To and select Desktop (create shortcut)
that should stop the auto shutdown (if that's the way he did it)0 -
How about programmes in the "startup" folder - Start > All Programs > Startup (i.e. in your start menu, the one you open when you click the round thing in the bottom left hand corner of the screen)?
If its a programme that is auto-starting it has to be either:-
- in the "startup" folder
- evident in the msconfig startup items
- started manually by you when you click on an icon
If you just start the PC, and do nothing else at all (no clicking, nothing) does the auto-shutdown start? If so, that rules out the third option in my list.

Ah ha! I've found it - thank you, you are a genius! It's in the start up folder and he's called it 'del'. It is one of the ones on the config menu that I wasn't sure what it was (the first one I highlighted in the screen dump) - I've disabled it from there so should that be the end of it now?£2012 in 2012 member #15: £651.55/£20120 -
