    This is an easy fix.

    1) Invite the "friend" over.
    2) Get BF to hold a cricket bat or golf club
    3) Ask BF's Friend politely to remove this "joke!"
    4) If he's not forthcoming with a fix you know what your BF should do... ^_~

And then never leave him alone in the house again.

how many items are in the Scheduled tasks?
Also look for a "autorun" folder looks like he's just added it to run when the machine starts
That's if it only happens once when you start the machine.
check "msconfig" (type it into the search box in the start menu.)
Go you "Startup" and see what's listed.

Well last time it popped up I just handed him my laptop and said 'sort it' he laughed and said 'that's still running?' but apparently all he did was cancelling that specific shut down again rather than deleting the command as it still happens.
He's an irritating person but he can be a good friend when he wants to be (he's driving my boyfriend to Northampton this Sunday to collect a car).

Ok I've got the start up listed, but I'm not sure what to look for - there's alot on it! Most of it lists the manufacturer as Toshiba, but there are a few 'unknown'. Doesn't appear as though I can copy and past the info though - can't even expand the box and do a print screen of the page.

From what I can see there are 3 items in the scheduled tasks, 2 of which are google updates.

Can't even leave him alone for a few seconds - he starts messing around if I pop upstairs to the loo!

He would only do it once in my house.

To be serious, he needs to be stopped because you don't know what else he is doing.

His tinkering is probably harmless, but it may not be.

Good luck with sorting this one.

He has possibly enabled the winexit.scr screensaver, which is designed to automatically log people off after a period of inactivity. Change your screensaver to 'none' or something else different to what it is now and see if that fixes it. If this is what he has done then he is a complete pr*ck because this will force close any open applications without saving any unsaved data. Probably time to get some new friends...

    New friend required.

Go into Paint, insert a Text Box in the centre, and type in

    "F**K OFF, NNNNNN"

    where NNNNN is friend's name.

Save this as a BMP. Change your desktop background to this BMP.

Alternatively, don't leave him alone with your laptop. Even if you're only going to powder your nose, take your laptop with you.

    Nope screen saver is fine.
I think the other person was right about it being linked to start up as it only happens the one time when the computer is on ie. now I've cancelled it since I last turned the computer on, it won't happen again until I next turn it off and on.

I have thought about taking it with me - it seems like a paranoid move, but then again he's proved there's reason to do it!

If anyone watches the video that was posted earlier - that is what he has done, so that's what I need to permanently erase, unfortunately the video only shows you how to stop it each time it's activated.

Then look in your 'startup' folder and see if he's stuck something in there.

The shutdown code for the message seems to be 'shutdown/r /t 600/ c HAHA Bye:P' if that helps anyone.

OK, according to this page, that command is available from a command prompt in Windoze 7 - is this your Op Sys? If not, what OS are you running?

As stated, /r is the switch to restart after shutdown, /t 600 the time parameter, and /c the 'comment' on reason for shutdown.

/a is the Abort command which can be invoked within the 600 second time parameter.

Can anyone provide more info on how the command might be invoked when the OP isn't deliberatly opening a command prompt? Iused to be able to do this in Win95/98 with batch files; are these still available in Win 7?
