    Neither would I.

They should have thought of the 'costs' when they decided to close the doors for the day. Parents will have to take an (unpaid) day off work because of it so why should you have to pay for someone who is not looking after your child on that day.

In a Nursery usually if they are offering a service (i.e. open for business) and your child is off for any reason on normal pre-booked sessions you have to pay, however if they are closed due to industrial action, adverse weather conditions (snow), boiler breaking down etc. where they cannot provide a service on your pre-booked days then you would not be expected to pay. If the Nursery is based in a children's centre they will be paying minimal rent and utilities compared to other Nurseries (as CC receive Govt funding) that they should easily be able to absorb and obviously will have no staffing costs.
  • Striking staff usually do not get paid - have they actually asked you for the fees for the day?
  • I would be surprised if nursery ask you to pay or if you have already paid I'd be surprised if they didn't refund. You definitely should not have to pay if the nursery is closed due to strike.

You need to ask the nursery really. It sounds like you wouldn't have to pay, but you need to ask them for clarification.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
  • I dont think you should pay at all. What would you be paying for? Staff to go on strike and not be looking after your child. If they dont provide a service then you dont pay for it.

The school where I work normally runs a breakfast and after school club. Fees are paid a month in advance for these. The office will be deducting the cost of fees for 30/11 from Decembers invoices.

Why do you pay for bank holidays when your child is not going to nursery and being cared for then? This seems odd to me. There should be a variation on your bill to account for this.

Re the payment for bank holidays, its all normal and usually written into the contract.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Any NHS staff that strike will not get payed for tomorrow so in my opinion neither should the nursery staff. No wages to be covered.

    I wouldn't pay !!
