Capping benefits at 4 kids?

The difficulty is trying to impose a new system on our society where there is an expectation that when times are harder, the state is there to catch you.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I support the cap perhaps at 3 children rather than 2 though... Triplets are not very common I guess so this would give provision for 3 all in one go or perhaps twins then a single or the other way round, If there is two sets of twins then the "eldest" would be provided for financially by the state. But parents would have plenty of notice wouldnt they! Then if they were capping it I think they should increase the Child benefit rate to £20 per child and the Tax credits alol set amounts per single child rather than on a sliding scale.
For those that have worked hard who have more than 3 kids, they should have some provision in place for if something does happen.0 -
Well I must be the thick one here, but I thought you only got child tax credits when you worked? I thought the fact we have to tell tax people what we've earned in the previous year was the whole idea.
I didn't think that Child tax credits were actually classed as a 'benefit', and as alot of working families on here are claiming them, we're all 'claiming benefits' then.

That's a moral judgement on what constitutes harder times, I was stating a fact regarding the difficulty of changing from one set of rules to another in this specific circumstance.
Morally I do not believe there is any thing wrong in claiming all benefits you are entitled to or using any legal method to avoid paying tax.0 -
Completely bonkers idea. I can only assume they'd prefer we were talking about this nonsense rather than the double dip.
So much for 'Every Child Matters' eh?0 -
As a mother of one I can't really see why anyone needs more than two children but I would worry that any cap on benefits punishes the child for the sins of the parents.0

Nope. A family only gets child tax credits if their income is below a certain amount, same with working tax. If a family doesn't work but hass kids they get the highest amount of tax credits.
And they are reducing it in April to something like if you are earning over twenty thousand, you won't be able to get it anymore. So only those on a low wage i.e. 20k, will get it as well as unemployed families.0 -

Nobody specific 'needs' one at all. Lets not go down the Chinese road!0 -
How about encouraging people to only have 2 kids anyway, even if they are working and can "afford" it as well as those on benefits? Surely those who are working now, can think ahead and think "what if" and limit their family "in case".0

Most people only want between 1 and 3 kids anyway, so you'd be wasting your time.0
