windows wont demist

Hi.

Today we have found that the windscreen on our car (skoda superb 2007 , 1.9D) wont demist even with the fan blowing at full speed.

It has been mentioned that this may be something to do with the pollen filter being blocked?

My Husband would be capable enough of checking and replacing this if need be....if we could locate it in the engine bay that is!

Can anyone point us to where it is situated in this particlar car? Maybe even link me to a website with a diagram?

Any other suggestions as to what could be causing this problem if its NOT the pollen filter?

Thanks.

My Nissan Note struggles to clear the screen at times and I just put the air con on for a few secs till it's clear. Sometimes I have to do it 4 or 5 times but it does clear it quickly.

  • While you investigate I recommend popping to Halfords for a bottle of anti-mist solution. You wipe it all over the interior windows and it stops them misting up.

You don't by any chance have the heater set to "recirculate" do you?

    That's what fooled me once!

  • As well as all of above is there any significant damp inside car? Very wet windows are a sign of damp inside the car.
Also when fan is on full can you feel the air being pushed out OK?

Why not leave air-con on till the windows are clear?

Get the air-con on........ That will help for sure.

On my Vectra, you have to use the air-con to clear mist, it even turns in on automatically if you select demist or recirculate.

The pollen filter should be good for at least 2 years, it'll be located just under the windscreen vents, check the water drainage channels aren't blocked while your there.

If the car has been dealer serviced and the pollen filter is blocked, then odds on they've never changed the filter or the oil or anything and just stamped your book in exchange for large sums of money.

Because people are brainwashed into thinking air-con = cold air..... When it's actually (strangely enough) about conditioning the air. IE controlling both temperature AND humidity.

You can actually use the air-con AND set the vents for heating.

  • Hi and thanks for all the replies.

My Husband has investigated further and has now discovered that the floor of the passenger side footwell is wet......not soaking wet but very damp.....The car is a taxi and as it has been raining very very heavily for the past 2 days we are not sure if this dampness is because of the passengers wet feet or another reason........

Hubby has dried the carpet out with a hairdryer and has put in a new set of rubber mats. We will then check back on the dampness later on to see if it has returned.

If the dampness DOES return , coupled with the fact that the windows arent clearing , what could this be pointing to ?

    Thanks again.

  • Water getting in via bad seals, holes in floor, could be many things

A bowl of rice put inside when parked up overnight may help remove some moisture from air (cheaper than a crystal damp collector thingy)

But only real solutions is to try and find source of water getting into car (lift the carpets for a start)
