I used to and still do, wear a hat at the same time. So Daddy puts on his hat and little one puts on his hat.
Works for me, as long as you like wearing a hat that is :D

Gentlemen wear hats when the weather is inclement, too sunny and or any other occasions when wearing a hat makes you look cool, calm & sophisticated!

i just used to let them go without a hat for about 5 min then asked if they were cold. answer was always yes so i put the hat back on and usually they left it on as they figured out no hat does infact = cold head.

Not going to work with a baby though sadly :D

did with my 2! DS1 was about 8-9 months first winter and DS2 was 10-11 months and both learnt fast. they still try it now at 5 and 2. 5 mins with no hat and gloves outside on a windy scottish morning right on the coast and they are asking for them to be put on.

i spoke to my children since they were in my belly. its how kids learn to talk. at that age they were able to make the connection between cold with no hat and cozy with hat.

i asked them "are you cold?" held out the hat "are you going to keep it on now?" they put their hands out, nodded or gurged or smiled or whatever they fancied doing i put the hat on hey presto mummy 1 kiddies 0.5 (gave them a half for being warm)

by that age they did have a few words and from alot earlier babies are able to convey their feelings and wishes they dont necessarily need to actually say the word. speech is the least used form of communication after all.

I'm sorry but are you saying that an 8 month baby has the intellectual ability to understand that keeping their hat on will keep them warm?

I am, my 2 year old wouldn't have a clue. So at 12 months, not a chance.
