Keep on walking, even with sticks, and do some exercise to keep those leg muscles strong, the muscles that support the hip joints. I go to aqua-aerobics 3 times a week and I find I can jump around in the pool whereas I couldn't on land! The water both supports you and provides resistance.
Thanks Margaretclare, never thought of keeping leg muscles strong but you are right and I take the point.
I'm just a mess. I used to drive carriage horses and do low key competitions but after an accident on the ground with a stallion (not mine) I lost my cruciate ligament in my left knee. Followed by a couple of tumbles from off a carriage left me a little crumpled. My hip went wrong when I compensated in the way I walked to do with my knees. I'd love to get back to driving or even riding I still have 4 stallions of my own which my OH rides, and I so do miss it.
So this is day one, I'm all fired up, cooking for OH plus odd job man for lunch.0 -
Gerrrr  having bad day with the calorie counting today
a friend has suggested trying ginger to help with the nausea I've been getting rather than taking the nasty pills I've got from the doctors that seem to knock me out for about 4 hours after I take them.
Asked DH to pick me something gingery up on the way home yesterday, expecting something like ginger beer or fruit tea and he gets ginger biscuits!! My fault for not being more specific but now they are sitting on the side open and I've not been able to resist a few... the way I'm going I'll have eaten my days worth of calories before tea time!!
Got to go for an ultra sound tomorrow and have to fast for the 6 hours before, which I guess is one way to claw back a few kcals :rotfl:
Hope everyone else is having a more sucessful day

Happy December everybody. I need to join again please Dragon. Starting weight 143lb. Which if we are counting means I put on last week:o I got really really bad sciatica was kept up all night with it(the reoccurance of an old injury.) Spent the next day stressed and in bed and although I did go back to work the next day any extra exercise was a complete no no. I might also have comfort ate on my day in bed:(
But it's a new month and hope springs eternal. It was sunny this morning and I have booked a walk with a friend this afternoon to kick start my month. Welcome to all the newbies we can all encourage each other. I too used to be really fit and I miss being able to do what I call "proper exercise" we can encourage each other. Any inventive suggestions welcome...within reason;)
Well done Dragon...starting the ball rolling, better be careful this weekendEnough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0 -

Get some fresh ginger from the supermarket, it's actually quite cheap as it's light and more potent than ginger flavoured things. You can make a tea by grating a cm cube of ginger into a cup of water and boiling for 5 mins. Can do it in the microwave if you want. Or just chew on a piece

ooo thank you for the suggestion will give it a go
having to avoid the biscuits again today! Decided to make brew and come and play on the forums for a bit rather than sit on the sofa with biscuits!
Having one of those days... have been having abdominal pains for about 10 weeks now and after various tests my doc decided I probably had gallstones. I've been waiting 2 weeks for a scan and finally had it today. Turns out there are no gallstones there
now have to wait for a week for an appointment with the doctor for results. So now i have a week of worrying about what it might be and what else might have shown up on the scan. The Radiologist would only tell me that there were no stones nothing else
Soooo frustrating  the pain is driving me mad, I've gone from being able to ride 15 miles a day to work be bearly being able to walk the dog for more that 15 mins of the flat. Want to be able to do some excercise to help with my wieght loss but don't seem to be able to manage much
