Please can I join in, I've 5 stone to lose, well actually 6, and I need all the help I can get.
I'm arthritic and need a hip replacement but I am terrified of anaesthetics so to lose weight would be good.
I used to be so fit and active, but always overweight, all but slightly, but since arthritis and walking with sticks I've slowed down and the weight has just got worse so please can I join in.
Currently 236.5lb but I have been as high as 253lb.0

            Hello
Well, I've just got down a whisker below 10 1/2 stone and would love to lose the half-stone. It doesn't matter to me about Christmas, just another date on the calendar, but it's a milestone. This morning I weigh 66.6 kg and that is lower than I've been for many a long year. That converts to 10 st 6 and 3/4 pounds approx. Below the 10 1/2 stone anyway.
Zafiro1984, I've just been looking at some old photos of me as recently as September 2005. I must have weighed over 80 kg then, and interestingly, in the December that year I had a second revision of left hip replacement. No one at all, not my consultant, none of the physios, even mentioned the matter of weight. No one! Yet 2 years later, when I had a gynae problem which needed surgery, the whole weight thing did come into the foreground, in fact the consultant wasn't going to do surgery until I'd lost at least 10 kg, got down to 70 kg. I never did, in fact the first time I got to 70 kg was after I started doing the Dukan Diet at the end of July this year. Instead of getting to 70 kg in December 2007 it wasn't until the end of August this year that I got to that figure.
Keep on walking, even with sticks, and do some exercise to keep those leg muscles strong, the muscles that support the hip joints. I go to aqua-aerobics 3 times a week and I find I can jump around in the pool whereas I couldn't on land! The water both supports you and provides resistance.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
