Co Op or HSBC

  • something to bear in mind with first direct and maybe HSBC as a whole - they don't bank with customers who are in IVAs or Trust Deeds. I banked with FD for a few years and was very happy with them. However, they were recently notified that I'm entering a TD and phoned to say that they were withdrawing services and closing my account. Check the T&Cs. I've now opened a Cashminder account with Co-Op (specifically for people with similar troubles).

Just something to keep in mind.

Something else which would be applicants need to consider is that HSBC /First Direct have a very strict lending criteria. Someone who is intending to jump ship to either of these banks and is possibly looking to apply for a loan or mortgage soon after needs to factor this into their decision.

I second that. They rejected my request for an overdraft that co-op and barclays were more than willing to offer.
