Been charged £22~ for web usage when switching to an iPhone 3GS.

I just got my newest bill through from O2, and I've got £21.97 in additional charges for web usage which I really shouldn't have.

Back story on this is that I bought an HTC Desire at its release, including unlimited data, only for my Desire to get stolen as soon as I moved to Liverpool 3/4 months later. I then had a BlackBerry, for which I got the bolt-on needed for web usage - This then got stolen just after Christmas (as soon as I moved back to Liverpool, funnily enough), and I took the BlackBerry bolt-on off. I bought a £4 phone that day and was using it until last month, when my Dad gave me his old iPhone 3GS.

Now, the Internet didn't work immediately on it as the web settings were wrong. I took it into the O2 shop and explained my situation with my contract having been for an HTC Desire with unlimited web usage, and asked if I needed anything additional such as a bolt-on to get the equivalent on the iPhone. The girl asked the guy beside her, and they both told me that I only needed to change a line in the settings and everything would work A-OK - and it did! I asked to make sure that I didn't need a bolt-on and my web usage would still be free, and they told me that was correct.

Cut to now, I've got £22 in extra charges from using the Internet. (see: i.imgur.com/A5Thl.gif )

As a note though, I looked as my 'inclusive allowances' and there is no mention of web data there. (see: i.imgur.com/l4QdA.gif )

Could it be that they had possibly removed my web allowance upon getting/after removing the BlackBerry bolt-on? What can I do to fix this, and get the extra charges reversed? I made the point of asking the staff in the O2 shop to avoid this very situation. :(

You seem rather unlucky with items getting stolen, you ought to be much more careful really, pay the £22 and be more careful in future eh?

Unlucky, yes; flush with cash, no.

I can't really afford to be paying extra charges on my phone bill for what was supposed to be inclusive usage - Especially when it will happen every single month if I keep the phone. Thanks for presuming that the thefts and these charges are my own fault, though.

Apart from avoiding Liverpool if you can, I think you need to call O2 rather than trust the shop - it does sound like you've no internet allowance for some reason!

Yeah, I was feeling that this was just a scammy issue on what they class as 'inclusive', but upon seeing that only calls are listed under inclusive allowances on the web site I'm fearing that they've removed my web allowance at some point.

I'm useless at talking to companies on the phone, any suggestions on the right/wrong things to say?

Well it's better than me thinking Liverpool is full of thieves!
I do find it pathetic that you can have two phones stolen in short a short time, the handsets you have/had are not budget so it seems you are not allocating your money wisely if £22 is going to strain you.

What a horrible thing to say to someone! I have been mugged at knife point. I forgot that if I'd been more careful that would never have happened to me. What a fool am I...
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

Wow. Thanks for the sage comments, however, I budgeted having a phone for two years at a fixed contract price getting a lot of usage out of it. The second phone, like the iPhone, was a gift and the bolt-on was an added expense to use it. It's great that you have the attitude that because I've spent money on something I use every day that I should throw away the rest I have, though.

I guess I'm as pathetic as you say!!

Do you always just pay your bills even if you suspect that they are incorrect?

It comes out every month automatically. Sorry if it offends you that I noticed when an unexpected charge did come out of my account.

Is everyone this ignorant here? I've come here looking for advice on getting my issue rectified, not to be hounded.
