    good morning all!

Now I have a dilema.... has anyone ever tried to resize a duvet? I just couldnt resist the bargain, but need to reshape/size/alter into a double duvet.

(Already thinking, if i can pull this off, I could use the excess to make a few scatter cusions for the bed)

My aunt too bought a larger cover at a knock-down price. She just ran a row of stitches up both sides of the cover. She did intend to cut off excess & make use of it but somehow never got around to it :)
  • thanks Chris.... fantastic knowing someone else has done this too.... a true bargain hunter!

In my mind it seems like an easy task, but i know too well that reality doesnt always work like that ha.

If it doesn't have a pattern you could maybe get away with just one side being sewn up and this would give you more usable remnants. I would have the tailors chalk out though because with this much material I almost always go squint unless I ahve drawn the line first

Hello again all - I've finally made a start on the binding for my first quilt. I watched a few tutorials on you tube first, as I've never done this before.

I might need to wait till I have a walking foot, too... but will give it a go on the machine with an ordinary foot and see how it goes (or maybe hand stitch the lot, but that might be a bit extreme!)

Just cutting out the strips for the binding now...

Hi there jpscloud was wondering how you were getting on. You will probably be ok with an ordinary foot for binding. I attach mine with a 1/4 inch seam and then fold over and machine stitch if I have enough fabric. The baby quilt I did I finished by hand as the material was a bit tight. Good luck. I'm making some quilts for my sister's cats they are her babies , have nearly finished the first. Happy Sewing all.

Hi miffy I gave up for today as I was only up to joining the binding strips together and for some reason I just can't get that straight join on the angle if you know what I mean. I watched some you tube tutorials but I just haven't got the knack yet!

Had another go and found it much easier today - obviously I just needed to take a break from it! Can't get much done during the week but hopefully will have a go at weekend.

  • Hello all - I don't really sew much but was proud of myself as just sown the front of my slippers back together, and now don't need to buy new pair :)

  • hey well done Kitten. You appreciate it more when its been loved and repaired by yourself :)

Well I received my super king size duvet yesterday. Going away for the weekend so wont get a chance to mess about with it until next weekend. But will report how I get on.... if I can pull this off I've saved myself about £70 plus all the extra wadding to make some lovely cosy pillows. Happy days (fingers crossed)

Morning all thought I'd bump the thread. Nice to have a long weekend so I'm going to make the most of it and crack on with my cat quilts.
Have nearly finished the top for the second one and have to quilt the first one. Have to rush through the chores and get on with it.
    Happy Sewing all.:)
