Congratulations to you too corrag! Here's to your future projects!
Taadaa what a nice idea - I have the commemorative embroidery my Aunt made when she was 15 to mark the coronation of good old Queenie... we have the silver coins that were minted specially for the silver jubilee but I don't remember another jubilee after that I'm afraid so there's one missing.
Anyhow, that was my roundabout way of saying making a cushion would be a nice way to commemorate the jubliee and may well be as much appreciated one day by your descendents as I appreciate having my Aunt's labour of love.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Just snatched success from the jaw of defeat lol
Was making myself a nice long skirt, attached belt loops to run a cord through and when I came to trying it on it was far too large and mishapen....
Sat down wondering where I'd gone wronge and if I could reshape things without butchering the material too badly, when I noticed a little sticker at the BOTTOM of the skirt which read:
"Top of skirt"
*face palm*
I'd only gone and put the belt loops on the wrong end! XD
A cup of tea and few picked stitches later it now looks like it was intended.
Lord bless my little stickers XD~"I don't cook so much since we moved out of reality...."~0 -
Thanks everyone. Its here and unpacked and I'm feeling ever-so-slightly daunted. I've been staring at it knowing it holds untold potential but really not sure how to unleash it lol. Also I have new respect for quilters. I thought sewing squares together looks easy I'll try that. OMG its not easy at all. It has to all line up, and you have to fold it over every which way to get the squares sewn to each other. After about 20 minutes I was covered in thread, sweaty and had only sewn 4 squares together!
So instead of labouring under the idea that I'm an expert I'm going back to basics. Starting on Saturday I'm going to re-hem my net curtains which are looking dog-eared and practice on some scrap material. I'm on the look out for some very easy makes. I subscribe to Prima and they often have ideas for easy makes so I'll be rooting through all the old issues.
Thanks for the support everyone-Slimming World Challenge

Enjoy your new machine corrag! I recently bought myself a new machine (Janome) after resuming sewing after a break of 30 years or so. The new machine has made it so easy, automatic threader and one step buttonholes - bliss! A fortnight and quite a bit of sewing later, I decided I couldn't live without an overlocker too ..
I'm now the proud posessor of both, and there's no stopping meOfficial DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
FrugalFranny that made me laugh:rotfl: Glad it was alright in the end. Off to my sewing room (DD's bedroom while she is at Uni) in a bit to do some more patchwork. Happy Sewing all.:)£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund

corrag, don't despair! I started with some scraps and watched lots of you tube tutorials to get the technique right for machine piecing. Don't stress over small mistakes! I made loads, and not least had an absolute nightmare with the machine breaking the thread all the time (turned out I just needed to replace the needle!)
Getting used to the machine will take a while, but you will soon be enjoying it! I'm enjoying mine even though I still haven't got fully competent with it.
When you're ready to try patchwork again, go for something small like a cushion cover to get the piecing techniques down.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
