    Hello All

I am very new to this although I have had a machine for some time(normally borrowed by friends who are much more professional than I).

Anyway tonight I attempted first project and made a holder for my plastic carrier bags from an old pillow case, not much but a start.

  • Bought some lovely fabric and some patterns that were down to £2.95 so am excited to get going with sewing clothes.

Might start with an apron as that must be easier than a top, skirt or dress!

I put a couple of photographs of the fabric on my blog (linked on my profile) as I was so excited to see pretty and useful fabric in a shop!

Love your blog:) (I'm a home-making girl too) Your bedside cabinet makeover inspired me to do mine too. The fabrics you bought are gorgeous

Hi there sewing people, Angel_Jenny love those fabrics and your blog.
Will attempt to put my quilt top onto backing and wadding today so wish me luck. I must try to put up photos but not sure how to do it. Happy sewing.:)

Thanks jpscloud. I might try my luck with a table runner and a few matching napkins :) Have some lovely curtain material that would do the trick :)

Gibson123, thats a great link. Thanks. Have bookmarked it to browse through later when I get the sewing machine out. Total novice at sewing but will have a go at some of the easier patterns :)
  • Hi Guys,

I am in the process of looking for a sewing machine. Had a brother bc2100 previously but gave it away to a family memeber as i rarley used it.
I have decided to get my sewing hat on and begin making things again and wondered if any of you lovelys could reccomend me a machine.
I am not an expert at sewing and could do with a machine for the less experienced but not basic!

    HELP :)

Hi prettylittlemonkey, if you know the basics of how to thread a machine look on gumtree or e-bay for a second hand machine, I have a brother that is about 20 years old now, but have recently also bought a singer for £20 (the one in a table) to sit in a corner of the kitchen for when I cant be bothered unpacking the brother which lives on a shelf in my broom cupboard, the table is also handy as other wise it means I have to extend my dining room table that is butterfly style. To begin with a machine that does straight and zig zag stitches is the way to go. The sewing is the easiest part, it is working with the materials and patterns that is more difficult, however if you can follow a recipe you can follow a pattern instructions. If you can't follow the instruction given on the pattern because you can't visualise from two dimension to three dimension go on to youtube or videojug and search for the task e.g. sewing a zip on, and you will no doubt find a step by step illustration.

I think I will have to go back and look at the other fabrics next week! I love all the home-making skills - trying to learn to sew, knit, bake and garden! All at once of course!

Good luck with the quilt - I haven't dared to attempt one yet as I am still a bit in awe of the sewing machine!

More people from this section need blogs - they would be so interesting to read!

Well I can bake, cook and garden but knitting bores me rigid. i also love decorating especially wallpapering. I find making things very relaxing as I have quite a stressful job. Just wish I had more time.My sister says my house is just a collection of half finished projects, she could be right.
