This is where a tax on building land that is not being developed would be a good idea. Currently there is a lot of land which is being mothballed until it becomes more profitable to build on. If there was a substantial cost to just sitting on this land then it would an incentive to either build on it, or sell to someone that would.
Might hurt the speculators a little though.
Site value rating - the day you get the planning permission you have to start paying the council tax on each plot. Do away with the nonsense of the billions a year we put into the EU's common agricultural policy to boost farmland prices for land owners.Mary_Hartnell wrote: »Talking of the house market, has anyone picked up on day time C4 TV "Sealed Bid".

I was not at home on Monday but the interesting thing is that in the last three programmes, made back in the summer, none of the houses made their seller/agent's questimated price and the one that was subsequently argued up a bit after the bids closed, fell through before exchange of contracts.
I think the land owners are beginning to get the message that the end user sets the price!
 There is always a seller:
 Debt.
 Divorce.
 Death.
So far we have had one of each I think.
Anyway the owners have had a free hour long advert on C4 - make an orderly queue - there are three "cheep" West Country "bargains" ready for the spring blip in house prices.
Another failure - very aged pensioner leaving a non standard wood frame 1970 "non standard" 2 bed kit bungalow for a care home, as a result of loss of sight. Lovely big garden but now embedded in summer chalets, caravans and golf courses - but I would have thought the knock down value of the site was at least £150K - shows the real desperation of the forced seller - there is no such thing as a forced cash buyer.
Also shows the need for country residents to ensure their view by buying the fields at the farmer's "protection money" price.
Looks like son and daughter in law might have to consider moving to Cornwall and running a holiday let "staycation" business, while looking after the old lady:eek: If this exposure on national TV does not do the trick.
Post code probably PL32 9RF but sheltered from the road (and street view) by woodland and high hedges.0
