The Elites and the global warming scam

Well I believe it is changing, and faster than in previous ages.
And i am no Chicken little, but a Biologist who worked in the labs that did some of the very first AIDS research back in the 80's. When computers were only for people like me and were terminals using MS DOS to link to an IBM 370 mainframe. And you all out there (civilians) called it the 'gay plague'.
I know science, and I have read some of it in this debate. And remain convinced that what is happening today is not one of the normal climate shifts our planet has undergone throughout the ages.
You beleive what you want to, and I will do likewise. Just like many didn't beleive CFCs were causing the hole in the ozone layer, and what that was doing to the planet. And yet now they are gone, there is a slow 'repair' happening.
If you leep your head in the sand, it is gonna get wet.0 -
Only today, I received an email from British Gas offering all sorts of deals of one sort or another, including free loft insulation or whatever...
Clearly, they are under pressure!

It's been changing since long before mankind has been around, it's also been far warmer in the last 2000 years at times.
So are you saying that Global Warming isn't happening and it's all a scam, or that Global Warming is happening and it's all a scam ??'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
It isn't a scam. The climate really is changing.
No snow on kilamanjaro in summer any longer, ice cap in the north shrinking, ice shelves in antarctica breaking up. Ask the soloman islanders whose land is shrinking weekly with the rising seas?
but go on, call it a conspiracy. Just bury your head in the sand.
When is the climate ever not changing? This planet used to be completely covered in 2km thick ice for millions of years. And then warm periods, then more ice ages, then another warm period and so on. Let's ignore the huge geological and energy forces that affect this planet and blame it all on us.
I'm not burying my head in the sand, I'm asking for a concrete convincing argument that we are incontrovertibly the primary cause of the current climate change before you decide to arbitrarily tax me personally and the nation. I see the same models and methodology employed in financial markets to make 'predictions' of the future based on historical data and we know how well those worked (six sigma events anyone?).
The universe is too big, too complex and has too many variables to be 'black box' modelled and provide such predictive certainty. Same goes for the planet, same goes for a financial market of a couple of thousand key actors.
And what I really dislike is that anyone who questions the prevailing orthodoxy is portrayed as some cynical or deeply selfish loon. Which I find ironic when global warming proponents think this is an acceptable way of making their case...

I'm open to hear a more reasoned debate than that but in the end I think it's futile - even if we were to agree we were the cause and had to change, the avoidance of the economic cost in the present (cf India's position on emission recently) will outweigh the moral gain of the future when it comes down to it, especially in the harder economic times I see ahead.0 -
So are you saying that Global Warming isn't happening and it's all a scam, or that Global Warming is happening and it's all a scam ??
Do you want a serious answer to that and would you respond in a serious manner or will it just be petty banter. Are you prepared to listen to valid arguments backed up by facts?
If the latter then I will answer, otherwise I can't be bothered to engage, I'm only interested in people who want to understand, not people whose minds are closed.0 -
We are doing something about climate change in Western Europe.
We have engineered in another recession followed by years of stagnant growth. Soon we will be selling our shoes for a few logs on the fire.
Fuel consumption will drop as the squeeze bites. People will be forced to do more teleconferences.
It's those pesky Chinese with their double digit growth goals, and Indians with their extremely dirty Tata Nano car which will sell by the bucketload.
If you want to suppress CO2 growth, go and debate with those people.0 -

The people that are making a good living out of all this stuff have changed it from global Warming to Climate Change. Think they found their original sums did not quite up and they would have been out of a job.0 -

Exactly, whatever we do here is going to make no difference at all.0 -
Since the Age of Enlightenment, every advance in scientific understanding has been embraced (and exploited) as a 'force for good' in the human condition...
Now that Climate Science begins to approach 'respectability', why do so many people adopt a kind of religious fervour in opposition?
