I have an Offset Mortgage with Natwest and not sure if it's the same as you, however . . . I don't overpay through online banking. I phoned them up to increase my monthly payments as they informed me that payments made by online banking are both Capital and Repayment, whereas if you phone them and ask them to increase your payment i.e you want to overpay by £50 a month. The £50 overpayment is paid off the Capital alone, so this helps to reduce the interest you pay on the Capital.

Hmmm, i'll have to look into that then. My mortgage is repayment rather than offset though so i'm not sure if it's different but i may give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. So far i've overpaid £5 as a tester by that method so it's not going to cause too much disaster but if it the case maybe i'll call them when i have lump sums. My current overpayment is just an increase on the d/d so it comes out with the general mortgage repayment!
    Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000
    Mortgage 2: £270,000😱 Jan 2019 £253,000 April 2020

My Offest mortgage is repayment and when I made an online payment I only paid a few pounds to 'test' it like you. If you do contact them, I'd be interested to know if online payments are still capital and repayment.
