  • mmm interesting chat with the man from the Halifax. According to him because the OPs I have been making have not been allocated to a specific mortgage product they are just hanging around in an 'advance pot'. I am not sure this is right because my capital figure is going down but he said so long as they are in this advance pot I can continue making OPs and allocate them after the fixed rate is up without penalty. Slightly confused by this. Will go in to a branch to speak to someone in person just to make sure .

    Hello,

An excellent OP mortgage destroyer, all updated for you.

Hi and welcome to our newest challenger Laurz29 who joins us at No.57 on the spreadsheet. I have noted your target as £450 for the remainder of the year but do let me know if that is correct. Good luck with your challenge!

Hmmm, that does seem strange lighthousescotland. Good luck with getting a straight answer in the branch.

Three OPs on the googledoc, firstly your lovely OP UnionGirl, all updated.

Also Retireat50, your great OP is now listed on the spreadsheet.

Finally, southernman your excellent OP takes you closer to beating your second target of the year.

Maybe see you later or tomorrow.

    Take care,
    Spigs

I've just made my September overpayment, £603 this time. I wasn't planning too, but my car service and MOT was a lot cheaper than I had budgetted for. Plus car insurance isn't due till the end of this month meaning I'll be paying it next month.

So that's £10,362 paid off so far this year, and £14,453 since I started overpaying.

I did notice on the spreasdheet that my original target is £12,500. Not that it really matters but it was originally £5,000 and I upped it to £12,500.

If I want to make £12,500 I'll need to up my payments a little as I only have three months to overpay £2138, which is £712.66 a month. If I do miss out I should make £12,000 which i would never have throught I would have done at the start of the year.
    MFW 2015 - #88 £3,345 / £3,500
    MFW 2014 £2,990,MFW 2013 £7,905, MFW 2012 £12,216
    Opening Mortgage Balance (15th July 2010): £200,999
    Current Mortgage Balance(2nd July 2015): £150,999
    Total overpayments to date: £30,292.00

Awww, thank you lighthousescotland, that's very kind and thoughtful of you.

Oh, it's totally addictive Laurz as you'll find!

I so agree with you southernman, this month was a bit fiddly for me but I moved savings out of one account to ensure I could re-max the regular saver after paying for the boiler. Made much more sense to have the RS maxed than in the other account at 3.2% net. An extra £75 into each next month (out of salary) will put me back to where I should be.

    Rambling now ... sorry!

    See you tomorrow.

    Take care,

  • Well I'm glad to be part of it, we can be addicts together! Roll on payday so I can see if I can spare more fot the OP pot :T
  • I will be making an op on the 23rd, but think I shall organise my money a little differently this month. I will give each pot slightly less, and put the remainder into an op pot. If I need it, it's there, but I'd I can do without then I can use it for an op. If it's out of sight, I may be able to put it out of mind!

Trouble is, I have so little money to organise, that it already has to streeeeetch a long way! Been busy thinking about a target for next year, and how I can achieve it while still being able to afford to live.
