The rules apply to all lenders under FSA regulation.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Having paid off the last of our mortgage, Santander say we must pay a 99 Pound closure of mortgage admin fee.
I know that we can get the deeds ourselves from the Land Registry so can we do this and ask Santander to reduce this fee? Or is it fair enough to pay this fee?
I'm not trying to get out of paying as such, just seeing if we can save any of it as every penny counts.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

You can ask them and they will either say yes or no. It may well actually cost them more if you do it yourself as they check what you do. So, they may not let you. Or they may let you but charge you the same as its not saving them any time.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hello, its my first post after lots of reading, but I just wanted to thank you. I fell accross this mortgage exit fee claim thread when i was looking at PPI reclaim. I dug out my old paperwork and it appeared that Northern Rock had charged me £250, instead of £150 when i left their mortgage. So I did as the site advised, and I have just receieved a letter from them upholding my claim, and repaying the whole £250 as a good will gesture, with £125 interest.
Thank you so much...... what a great little treat just for stumbling accross this site.0 -
I have just received my cheque a full 6days after emailing the Halifax to complain about the MEAF. Thank you so much for the information ...I am £175 better off!..:D0

back on the 12th november i sent a letter to portman (now nationwide) regarding mortgage exit fee.
My contract stated a MEAF of £40, however, I was actually charged £145 at exit of mortgage.
I am still waiting for a response after 8 weeks, what do i do next?0 -

i remember seeing this and thinking months ago i should really write the letters and never getting round to doing it. then finally done it few weeks back, wrote the template "asking for the whole fee back" and got 175 from Halifax but only 20 from Nottingham (out of a 120 exit fee) ... was thinking about taking Nottingham for more but can't be bothered so will cash in the 20 quid. Spread the word to friends and family ! I reckon most of us have switched mortgages in the past !0

Just received a letter from Northern Rock saying they will not consider my complaint and request for a refund of the difference with the mortgage exit fee because the 6 year time limit. The exit fee was debited in November 2005 and I sent my letter to them in January 2013. Only became aware of the issue at the end of last year.
Has anyone had any success when referring the complaint to the ombudsman service?0
