Do Halifax check if it has been more than 6 years since the exit fee was paid and if it has, they won't payout or do they payout regardless of how much time has passed since the original fee was paid?
  • Just give them a call it took 2 mins and was really simple cheque arrived and cashed it took about a week to arrive :j

    Hi

I started a 25 year mortgage with Nationwide Anglia (50% shared mortgage scheme) in September 1987 and divorced in 1993 whereby the mortgage was placed into my sole name in March 1994 I then managed to pay it off in September 2007 I have been told by one PPI claims company that I don't really have a prayer because my Mortgage/PPI payments started just before the FSA regulations came into force on 29th April 1988... Is that true ?
Is there any hope, or will it be futile even attempting to put in a claim on my own ? Or is there another course to take ? Thanking you in advance for any assistance in this matter.

Its a combination of things. Pre-regulation. The facts it MPPI (which has the lowest success rate of any type of PPI) and the fact it is so long ago.

The FSA set the ruling that you should be refunded the difference between what you agreed at the point of taking the mortgage or later deal purchased (the later one is used if you buy a new deal) and the what you paid.

If your agreement was say £250 and you paid £250 then you have no entitlement to anything back. So, what did you pay and what did your agreement say? If there was a difference then you have a case. If there is no difference then you dont.

  • I found your article on MEAF by accident when looking up PPI this morning. I switched my mortgage from Halifax in early 2006.
Phoned Halifax this afternoon and got a call back within an hour to say that they will send me a refund for the whole amount £175 within a week.
Also have a freephone number to call for this 0800 0964518. not the 0845 number as listed.
Many thanks MSE, keep up the good work.
