Thanks for the reply, I was just wondering as I have used the template from this site which also state that we can ask for the refund of the exit fee plus any interest due hence why I was asking the question whether I need to reply and asked them for the interest incurred?

You may ask for that but they dont have to give it.

The FSA ruling was that the refund should be the difference between what your last contract signed was and what you paid. Not interest is required but is normally added to that with most lenders.

However, in your case, they gave you the full fee back. This is in excess of what the FSA ruling was. So, you are better off with what you have rather than had they followed the FSA ruling and typical response.

  • I just phoned the Bank Of Scotland and they charged me £195 for 'Repayment Administration Fee' in 2006. The customer services rep forwarded my issue to their Complaints department and they will look into that. They will send me a letter within 5 days, but resolution could take up to 8 weeks.

Why do you feel there is a complaint?

  • I changed my mortgage with BoS in 2008 to a buy-to-let product with Halifax, and wrote to them at the beginning of September to reclaim my redemption fees in full after reading Martin's article on MSE.

Having discarded most of the paperwork for the old mortgage I did't actually know how much I had paid but thought it worth the price of a stamp to try to reclaim.

They wrote back yesterday confirming that although the £150 they charged was in line with the FSA guidelines, they would refund in full, along with the £45 charged for the release of the title deeds.

    Well chuffed!
  • Im new to all this. So im starting on a claiming frenzy. First call just made around 15 minutes of my time to RBS for a mortgage going back to 2006. Cheque for £225 plus interest in the post !! Think i better charge my phone up.

    Whoop!

    Thanks MSE.

Sent letter last Monday to C&G for Mortgage we cleared 10 years ago, & got letter today saying the full fee (no Interest!) is on it's way. Having read DunstonH above about only refunding some & getting Interest on the difference I don't think I'll push it!

That's most of Christmas sorted. :)
