Just wanted to say that I successfully claimed back £100 in fees from Britannia. Sent the template letter and 2 weeks later got the cheque, no interest though.0

I have some good news, too. I've just received a cheque from Natwest for £340!!!
They refunded me the £225 exit fee I was over charged (should have been £85) plus £115 in interest.
I am over the moon, this money couldn't have come at a better time.
Many thanks Martin.0 -
When I say I worked in FS, I was only ever an administrator and a bank clerk, I have never been an IFA.
When viewing complaints, occupation comes into it. A tea lady at a bank wouldnt be expected to know about these things but a general bank clerk would be expected to have a better understanding. Never offer the occupation in your case as it can be held against you.I'm sorry, I don't understand your next point. Perhaps you could explain, or maybe I should? I thought this thread was in regard to Mortgage Exit Administration Fees?
It is. If I have misunderstood I apologise but I was getting the impression yours was an Early repayment charge (ERC) rather than a MEAF. If it is just the difference in the MEAF you are reclaiming then that is a doddle and you should expect it back. If it is an ERC then it is not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hi Dunstonh,
Yes I agree I would never offer my former occupation as used to work in mortgages for one of the biggest insurers in the world! But all the same, if a customer has been wronged they have been wronged. When claiming PPI back I was in full knowledge they missold me it as I argued against having it and they refused to sell me a loan without it- I needed the loan and in the end they paid me it back plus interest with no quibbles. I don't seek to undermine, just to merely state that a customer has irrefutable rights regardless of occupation.
Having worked in mortgages yes I am referring to a MEAF, not an ERC which are really inescapable so it's vital customers try to consider whether they can afford an ERC when initially taking their mortgage.
Anyway, quick update is that NRAM have sent a holding letter to inform they are still dealing with the claim. This is reasonable as in the MSE template it requested an update within a certain timescale so I'm still hopeful! Hope it comes in before next payday as I have a hungry 4year old and a car tax bill to pay for!0 -
About 7 weeks ago I wrote to NRAM about an old mortgage I had. Have chased them a few times since then. On a couple of occassions, the person I spoke to could find no record of my account:: the first time from my name and address, the second time from my actual account number. NRAM's telephone number is an 0845 number - so it's certainly not free to chase them up. I managed to speak to someone last week who could actually find my details and they said that they have 8 weeks from the date the complaint is logged on their system to respond. My query was logged 1-2 weeks after I sent my email. I therefore have to wait about a week until I should expect a response.
Anyone else experienced anything like this?0 -
Update.
After a week of indecision I've banked the Halifax cheque for £150, this was full repayment of the admin charged but no interest.
I've written to Abbey turning down their offer to repay the difference.
And Barclays say no case as they charged as was set out in the agreement so I'll have to decide if I now want to go the "MEAF fees aren't justified" route.

I ported my mortgage with Skipton Building Sociey as I purchased another property and stayed with them. They have charged me a morgage exit fee of £125 for closing one mortgage down and then set up a new mortgage even though I still remain their client. I phoned to spak to them an they aid thy are within their rights to do this. I sent a letter of complaint as I didn't feel it to be fair given that I have remained loyal to them. They acknowledged receipt of this on 30th April but have heard nothing since. Not sure where to go with this one and whether I will be entitled to anything or not.0
