  • I called RBS last Sat and asked how much exit fees i had paid, this was back in 2006. told me £225. passed me to customer team and they confirmed that this can be paid. asked me for my bank details and the money was paid to my bank on the Monday :j
  • One telephone call on 4th April, one letter on 5th April to Llyods TSB and now a letter confirming refund of £225 + £38.45 interest = £263.45 received on 17th April.

Never would have known but for the site, this mortgage was paid off in Jan 2007, so thank you. :D
  • Wrote on 30/3/12 to C&G, as a result of seeing this in the weekly newsletter. They wrote to me on 4/4/12 confirming refund of £125 and £25.55 interest and a cheque was sent the same day.

This mortgage was redeemed in Sept 2006 and I would never have thought any more about it had it not been for this article. Thanks very much. I love you!!!!
  • Just wondering if you can claim a refund based upon the exit admin charge being excessive in relation to the actual cost of what it covers? We had a mortgage with A&L paid off early in 2010, costing us £295 which is what they quoted in original mortgage offer. I can't claim any difference as this was quoted but how can lenders justify such a high cost for the admin work involved?
Have contacted lender and no joy with them saying go to FSA if we're not happy. Do we have a leg to stand on and is it worth taking this further or should we let it go?
    Any thoughts appreciated
  • I redeemed a mortgage with NatWest in January 2006 and paid £225 MEAF. Having seen the article I used the template to claim the difference plus interest. Nat West replied that it acted reasonably and within their published policy in charging £225 and therefore it would not be upholding my complaint nor the interest requested. Bizarrely it went on to say that a gesture of goodwill it was refunding the MEAF and enclosed a cheque for £225 !

It seems to be refunding the fee without admitting liability. I've cashed the cheque !
  • Read this article & phoned Halifax 10/4/12. ON 21/4/12 i received a letter with a form to sign for me to get the £75 back that i paid in 2006. Great result for a quick phone call. If you don't ask, you don't get. :T
  • Is there any advice if I haven't had a response to my letter after 3 weeks? I'm not planning to do anything immediately but was thinking about following up at the weekend. Should I send another letter, or perhaps call?

Read the MSE newsletter and decided to try my luck with Woolwich. They have a dedicated phone number for it, so they must be getting a fair few enquiries. It took two phone calls then I got a letter confirming £135 had gone into my bank account.

They didn't explain their 'workings' or add interest that I know of, but life's too busy right now for me to chase it further. Very happy though.

    Thanks Martin/MSE!
  • I followed the instructions and within 3 weeks i have been given my full refund plus interest, thank you :j

    Good evening,
I've currently got a mortgage with NRam that will soon be settled by teh sale of my house. We're moving into rented for a bit prior to buying elsewhere once we've saved for a deposit.

I rang NRam and they gave me the current settlement figure, then told me there was a discharge settlement fee of £200... Excuse my ignorance but isn't this what people are claiming back? can i just say to them don't add it in the 1st place?! Anyone have any recent experience of this? Thanks, James
