Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

I sent 2 MEAF letters; Northern Rock have sent me £25 no probs:j
However, Abbey National have asked me all sorts of questions that i don't know the answer to like mortgage opening and closing date and the account number.
How can i find this info out as i stand to get £125 back from them and suspect this is a delaying tactic; hoping i will give up (BUT I WON'T)!
I'd appreciate any ideas?0 -

Sorry to confuse you MarkyMarkD, what I meant was I changed my mortgage from Nationwide to Halifax in January 2008. I have actually received a reply back from Nationwide and a cheque for £90!
Not bad for an hours work :j0 -
Thanks for the explanation, Larry.0

i know some people on here clearly do not approve of this, but as this is a thread about successes and failures, i felt i should post anyway.
having read all of the advice on this topic i sent a letter to A&L asking for a breakdown of the £295 they charged me... they couldn't provide it and instead refunded me the £295... very, very simple and such a nice thing to get in times like these!!!
very much a success - thanks MSE0 -
I requested the difference in my MEAF from Newcastle Building society and received a cheque for £135 within the week. My sister asked me to write a letter on her behalf to Northern Rock, they replied within 5 days and offered her £25 as her contract stated £225 and she was charged £250, so they were only offering the difference. On Martins advice from this website I replied with a request for the full breakdown of charges and said no more than £100 was acceptable for an admin fee and I requested a refund of £150. They replied again within 5 days and have now offered her £250 refund, she has accepted return of post, it just goes to show that they know they are in the wrong but how many people will have accepted the £25 thinking, well £25 is better than nothing! Thanx Martin for the advice keep it coming.0

No, they don't know they are in the wrong, because they aren't. It isn't commercially worthwhile for them to waste endless amounts of time arguing with belligerent ex-customers.
That doesn't make claiming money you aren't entitled to, any more righteous.0 -

Let's hope it is no longer "commercially worthwhile" for these hapless banks to go squandering their depositors cash as they so spectacularly have been doing so for many years.0 -
Eh?
No bank has lost any depositors' cash. I think you'll find that it's their shareholders' cash which they have been squandering. And those shareholders had the choice of investing in a risky business or tucking the money under their mattresses.0 -

I think I'll find, like most others, that the banks have been squandering their depositors' cash by lending their depositors' cash without ensuring that the borrowers have the means to pay it back.
Similarly they have been squandering their owners, ie shareholders' cash.0 -
Our mortgage with C+G ran from 2004 - 2006. When I phoned, they told us that we paid £225 exit fee but that this was correct as of that time, so we are not candidates for a refund.
Is this correct information or should I have persisted?
Thank you.
