    just rang halifax £100 on it's way!!!!:D:D:D
  • We took mortgage out with The One Account in Nov 2006 for 1 year, then changed to C&G. When we've looked back at the final statement from The One Account, they had charged an admin fee of £225. We didn't have any original paperwork to state what the fee should have been, but sent the template letter anyway on 4th October.

Was going to chase today as hadn't heard anything since, but then received a cheque in the post from The One Account for £150. Can't believe how easy it was!!

Thanks Martin, will definately pass this one onto family & friends!
  • called halifax today, 5 minute call £75 refund
  • Thanks Martin we have been promised £175 by the Halifax after one phonecall and a short form to fill in.
  • Kent Reliance replied within a week and sent me a cheque for £150!

Halifax replied after about 3 weeks and said no...

    1 out of 2 isn't bad!
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow
  • I have reclaimed £966 (across several buy2let mortgages) in the last few weeks since taking Martin's advice to speak to lenders who had overcharged for these fees. It does not take long and most lenders admit they have overcharged and will pay without question

    Thanks for the advice Martin!

I'd love to know why alliance and Leicester are so less reasonable than any other bank.. I got nothing. Yes I signed the contract for 295 but when I called them I didn't dispute that I requested a breakdown of the costs incurred during the transfer of my mortgage.

Yet they didn't reply with this answer, does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm thinking of requesting the info under freedom of information. Any advice gratefully received x

If the original contract states £295 then there's nothing to claim back. If you felt £295 was unreasonable then you shouldn't have taken the mortgage with them.

I do get quite annoyed with some of the short sighted comments on here. For your information I only had a choice of two lenders who would lend me enough, and no I have never missed a payment. But just because I chose alliance and Leicester I had to pay 1/3 to a 1/2 more than other lenders!!

By my reckoning if the staff were being paid fifty an hour (which is a gross estimation) they charged me for six hours and there is just no way the mead is justified!h

In June of this year my 2 year mortgage with Aliance & Leicester came to the end and I transferred over to the HSBC. Again I was charged an exit fee, this time £295. Again I wrote to them asking for it to be refunded, they wrote back informing me that the fee was justified and they stand by the charge. I wrote back again and asked for a breakdown of what exactly I was being charged for, very promptly a cheque for the £295 came my way.

Big thanks to Martin Lewis :money:

Thanks for this exactly what I asked for when I rang, a breakdown! Will write in!
