Made the phone call to Abbey approx. 8th Feb - they sent me a very short form to fill in, sent it back on 13th Feb - cheque for £126.00 received this morning (23rd Feb).

    Result!!

I'd have had absolutely no idea about this if it hadn't been for Martin's site - it's frightening to think how many people are entitled to this money and haven't a clue about it.

But one happy camper here - not to mention all the extra money I've saved - so far I'm a little over £600 better off purely down to moneysavingexpert, and I only found out about the site about three weeks ago!!

    Thanks Martin.

Hey well done Artybird - What else did you save on / reclaim?

Argh. Why on earth are you switching to Kensington, who are not renowned as a good value lender?
  • ive just called bank of scotland (NOT royal bank of scotland - who i called first by mistake!).

i gave them all the details i could remember and they found me on the system. i originally took out the mortgage in 02 and switched lender in 06.

the operator took my new address and said the relevant dept will contact me in the post in 1-2 weeks.

is this normal? i will give them a chance but it wasnt like they just said yes you paid too much and are due a refund...
  • Hello Martin & Co,
After signing up for your emails, and reading the article on MEAF's, i contacted the halifax, spent 5min on the phone, and now looking forward to receiving a cheque for £125! passed your web site on to several colleagues at work. Brilliant, Thank you.
    Kind regards

  • :j After reading about Mortgage exit fees being too high, I wrote to Alliance & Leicester and received a cheque for £120.00. Thank you for giving us the knowledge to do this.

I have been told that upon selling my property that has a Mortgage Express mortgage, that there will be a "sealing fee" of £175. I asked them why they still charge fees and why it was this high and didn't really get an answer. Has anyone had a refund from ME?

  • Sent out two letters to the Nationwide and Abbey respectively requesting refund of fee plus interest. Happy to say the Nationwide replied within 5 days with a cheque for £90 (what I asked for). Their policy is not to pay interest but not harm in trying! Have yet to hear from Abbey though. Thanks so much Martin. Will keep you posted.

    Hi,

I have finalised two mortgage accounts in the last 15 years. One with the Halifax in 1996 and one with the Nationwide in 2005. I couldn't find any of the details for either mortgage, but called the Halifax, who checked their records and sent me £35!!!

I wrote to the Nationwide, outlining the same and have just got £90 back!!

    Result!!

    Thanks!!
  • Just received a cheque for £126 from the Abbey having had a two year mortgage with them ( two years ago) . Read all the posts on this subject and thought Id give it a go! Really pleased as partner has just been made redundant and am going to be in some "trouble finacially" over the next few months! Thank you so much for everyone that contributes to this wonderful site!:T
