All the items I listed on ebay to finish this evening all sold. One of the items is troubling me though as it sold for a lot more than I believe it's worth and I have no idea how to rebalance this for the buyer.

    Hi Sweetie,

Lovely catching up with your diary, and congrats on a successful ebay outing (love the concept of 'adopting' stuff out!).

Just thought I'd add my tuppence on the guilt of bringing in more money than you feel is reasonable for an item.....

If we're really lucky, then this is something which sometimes happens to us ebay sellers. When it does, ask yourself the following three questions:
    1. Did I take good, clear pictures of the item?
    2. Did I give a good and faithful description of the item and any known faults etc.?
    3. Have I been honest in my dealings with the customer?
If your answer to all three is 'yes', then you have to assume that the buyer knows all they need too, and still feels that the item is worth the amount they have offered for it. Remember, it's an auction so they've actually opted to place that value on the item - you haven't forced it. Best thing to do is simply appreciate the sale.

    Hello Nora,

Thank you for that. I can say yes to all of those. I had 2 of this particular item and the other one is currently on a bid for twice the price the first one went for! Eek! But, you're very right and hit the nail on the head pointing out that this is a price they've opted to pay and not one I've forced on them.

    Thank you x

I've started reading my lists again! I really procrastinate without them. So last night when I got home I put 5 more items up on ebay. Oddly, as I was adding 2 of them I thought "these will go up for weeks then I'll throw them out" as they're just rubbish! A woman has emailed me this morning asking how much she can buy them both for and have them sent tomorrow!!! It's always the things you wonder are worth the effort to put on that get the immediate bids!

I've just seen that ending a bid early for an offered amount within the ebay site is allowed too, so it's good to know that's within the ebay agreements if I choose to do that!

I'm also trying to think of ways to maximise this clearing roll I'm on. I'm doing well with putting things into the adoption centre, but I'm starting to lose steam on what can go in there. I've got plenty to keep me going for a few weeks, but I don't want to stop then. Or at least I don't want to have to stop then.

I may just reverse tact at that point and go through things working out what I want to keep and having to justify why. That's probably the next step once I can't find things I'm definite about getting rid of.

At lunchtime I need to wander up to Hatton Garden as my Mum has a lot of my Dad's jewellery she'd like to sell. Hatton Garden give a very good price and I don't work too far from there so I'll wander up around 12pm.

She was also telling me yesterday that she'd seen a fountain that she'd fallen in love with and was the type of thing her and my Dad had been looking for over a long period of time. It's on sale but was still a bit too expensive for her, so now I definitely need some NSD's this month as I gave her half the money for it!!!! I'm working this weekend so that's 2, maybe 3 NSD's guaranteed. Then if I'm careful next week, which I can be, then I'll hardly notice. :)

So I have my weekly trip to Harrods again tonight with Mr Frugal! I have my discount voucher ready for him too! Very excited about that.

    Happy Hump Day! x

Well I'm back from Hatton Garden after selling the jewellery. Mum was hoping for around £800 and I managed to get £2,400 !!!! She's over the moon, as am I.

I'm now looking out for a new thread from a new joiner called "MuffinsMum" saying "I've given my daughter some jewellery to sell, of which she received 3 times more than I'd hoped for. The thing I'm concerned about is that she's off to Harrods this evening and I know she'll take the money with her. What can I do if she spends it all?" with the replies "your daughter is a parasite, that money has gone!" Ha ha! :D

But I now feel a need to point out to anyone reading this that I won't be taking it to Harrods and she will definitely get every penny. :)

Well, the jewellery funds have been handed over - in full - and she's over the moon. I'm so glad I was part of that.

Last night just went so frighteningly wrong though! I knew I had a gift to buy a close friend who has just moved, which was £20 with a 20% discount. All good so far and the main reason for the Harrods trip other than looking at watches. But I managed to spend £55 all together!!!! I wasn't happy handing the money over, but then I still did! It wasn't on anything specific either. We had a drink with macaroons in a little macaroon place in Harrods, that was over £12 each. Then dinner was a little over £15 each, then the £16 gift, but as there was 20% discount I bought a body lotion too!!!!! :o So that was another £10. Then, to make matters worse I was still going on about how much I wanted that £90 bottle of perfume I've liked for ages! I didn't buy it, but I think going on about it was bad enough! Maybe having that amount of jewellery money on me during the day just went to my head??? I don't know. I did wake at 3am in a panic and couldn't get back to sleep so hopefully that means it's a one off and the lesson is learned. I have no inclination to spend anything today!

After giving my Mum that money for her fountain, which kept everything still very doable but just a little tight I then went out splurging like a woman possessed! I'm not sure how I'll get through the month now! I'm working this weekend so all food, fares and drinks etc are covered. I have enough money for train fare until the end of the month which is good. I'll just need to make sure that I bring lunches to work and meal plan too until the end of the month. NSD's have to kick in now! Although there's no alternative. :( But food is the only essential. I have no plans next week at all, and I'm happy for it to stay that way.

I'm in the process of arranging food for the weekend now too as we all tend to eat so unhealthily with a lack of planning as we just grab a takeaway for speed and convenience. Then it's tough getting the money back too! So, I'm trying to book the toaster from our canteen and am compiling a shopping list to be taken to Waitrose to keep us all fed and watered gourmet style! :D

I didn't put anything on ebay last night as I was just too tired when I got home and it was very late. 3 more things have sold though so that's looking healthy. My evenings stuck in detention next week can be wisely used to clear more stuff out, catch up on housework that won't get done this weekend and more ebay uploads. Hmm, do I enforce no TV next week too? ;)

I hope everyone is having a good day x

Yesterday was a LSD, which was a massive relief. Today is fairly impossible to spend money as is the weekend as I'll barely leave the office now until Monday. All food, drink and accommodation is provided for and as I've decided to organise the food for us all it will be nice and healthy. Usually we just get stodgy takeaways which takes it's toll by the end what with very late nights and a lot of running around. We'll all be on our feet most of every day too.

This morning I had to get in a bit early too as I'd arranged to meet someone who bought a box from me on ebay. So I was standing outside Waterloo Station with a weekend bag and holding a Tiffany Box probably looking like I was waiting to propose! :D

Lots of stuff will definitely sell over the weekend and I've brought them all in with me so I can package them up and send them on Monday. I also need to find some time to update the feedback too.

So, all going well again and getting back on track. I hope everyone has a great weekend. x
  • Wow, that jewellery sale is brilliant for your mum!

I find that when Im on a bit of a high through something good happening, Im more likely to be less cautious even if I havent got the extra money, so can definately relate to your spending!

Dont work yourself too hard this weekend! xx

    Thanks DF,
My caution really did fly off! I'm back in control of spending I think. I've not been outside much to test that theory though.
I hope you had a good weekend xx

Well, I've had a little break from everything as after my work last weekend I seemed to implode a little. I should really have seen it coming with the blind spending, but I didn't and after a situation at work on the Friday I retreated into myself quite a bit.

The good thing was, I didn't have any need to spend any money and I had 4 spend free days. That did leave me with empty cupboards and fridge etc though so I had a nice shopping trip at the weekend and stocked back up again using some of the NSD's. But, I did only buy what I needed and there was no panic buying or wish to spend money on anything to comfort or treat me, so I'm very pleased with that progress/silver lining.

Things are back to feeling normal again and I've also had a weekend of very healthy eating so I'm hoping this hot weather is putting me into the right frame of mind regarding food and nutrition.

Having read that BoE base rate may reduce to 0% has really lit a fire under me too. I've spent most of the weekend digging things out for eBay again. I did think it was a free listing weekend, but that wasn't really for the things I wanted to sell, so I've stuck to my 99p or less starting price and will just add a few things each day. My clutter adoption centre is spreading out, but it does make me smile seeing all of that stuff waiting for it's new home.

I get paid at the end of this week too, so I'm thinking I might see if I can take Friday off and get myself reorganised and regrouped. I've got plans for the 4 days and so would like Friday to be a little pamper day for myself to recharge my tired bones!!! ;)

I did update my bank account app today and that's all reconciled and looking happy and that makes me happy!

I've also got a ticket to the Olympics. The guy I met for dinner a couple of weeks ago, who used to work at my Firm managed to get a couple of tickets and he emailed me yesterday to ask if I'd go with him. His treat!!!! So I jumped at it. He keeps adding little extras to it too so it sounds like it'll be a great evening with him. I'm quite excited about it now!

So, a fairly quiet week really but no spending disasters to report! This week will hopefully pick up a little again.

I hope everyone has had a great week and weekend. x

    Hey Miss Tops

Welcome back after your quiet and relaxing weekend :). I'm currently in bed knitting...........I was hoping to go to the Lido today but my body refused as it has had enough.

I understand the imploading feeling as I get caring fatigue if I don't get enough time off. It usually starts with the appearance of a patient with pyjama syndrome  (for example a youngish patient who arrives at the hospital with an injured finger, changes into a hospital gown and as a consequence immediately loses the use of their other healthy limbs and demands to be pushed around in a wheelchair as they can no longer think they should do anything for themselves!)

Fab news about the olympic ticket :T which event (s) are you going to see?

The NSD seem to be going really well as well
Life is like a sandwich, the more you put it in then the tastier it gets.............just go easy on the :spam:
